Coming from 2007 Infiniti G35x
All, I just ordered my 2010 BMW 328xi and will be taking delivery in a few weeks. I am wondering what kind of experience you think I will have? I got the premium package, heated steering wheel, comfort key access, navigation. The only really noticeable difference I think I will see is the G35x is 306HP while the 328xi is only 230, so I expect less power.
I am concerned about the complaints about the base radio (I didn't test this during my test drive), but I have read a few former Infiniti owners say their Bose premium (which is what I have now) isn't as good as the base BMW. I am hoping just the people unhappy with the 2010 Base audio are the people who came from earlier BMW's and got accustomed to better base systems. With the BMW, I am gaining heated steering wheel, Navigation with real time traffic, better bluetooth connectivity(My Infiniti couldn't download my phonebook, which was very annoying), BMW Assist and integrated iPod system(came out in 08 Infiniti's and later). I generally liked my G35x, but my dream was always to own a BMW and I like their look the best and that is ultimately what made me decide to buy one. I know the G37x now really compares to the 335, but I couldn't afford to buy the 335. I realize I am probably losing some sport appeal from going to the G35x to the 328xi without the sports package. |

Infiniti's are about the amenities and you fell into the trap of trying to replecate what you had.
The base on 2010's have been decontented and not as good as prevous models. Should have kept that comfort access out and upgraded the radio. You can always upgrade later if you not happy. Last edited by Nalod; 02-22-2010 at 09:07 AM.. |

Thanks. Once you have keyless entry, you never want to go back. Comfort Key was a must! My BMW salesman told me they are not popular in BMW yet, but as more and more people get that luxury, they are going to want it.

If you care about all the gizmo and gadgets you should have gone with Acura TL. It's loaded with all the toys you could ask for. BMW is more about the handling, and the drive itself. Don't worry though, you'll love the BMW.

If I were you I would've gotten a used 335xi rather than a new 328. Those 2 turbos are so fun. But nonetheless your car will be nice too, congrats!

See if you can add the Sports package. It's worth it for the seats alone!
I had an '04 G35; back then the sound system was affectionately known as "Blows" and was generally unloved by many. Unless you have a phone on BMW's list, don't expect full functionality. Yes, the car will have less power, but you will enjoy it so much more.

Thanks all. When I test drove the 2007 328xi, I loved it, but it was so expensive to lease compared to the G35x. This time around, I was buying and wanted to go with the BMW. I have a Blackberry Tour, which isn't on the BMW list...

imho horsepower and torque do matter, as I found out with the various 328 loaner cars I've gotten in the past. The E92 x-drive 328 had much of the looks of my 335 (no sport so wheels looked a bit tall and puny), but once behind the wheel, that said a lot more. I like loaners, but after 3 days, I was the one asking if my car's ready or not.
I think the BMW base stereo is ok, again, the loaners have had them and I didn't have any problem with them. |

I use a Blackberry Tour (9630) in my '09 335i and have full functionality. You shouldn't have any issues.

You can get a 335i with 30k miles certified pre owned, loaded or near loaded for about 30k you should do that and not getting the sport package on the 328i is gonna suck with that non sport steering wheel and non sport seats I would get

I considered CPO, but I really want to keep this car for a good 7 years and much rather would have started with a brand new car. I only drive 7,500 miles a year, and with that low mileage, I can keep the car a long time.

The E9x base stereo WAS better than the G35/G37's until this model year. There's many posts decrying BMW's decontenting of the 2010. The 2010 has less number and lower quality speakers, and the external amp has been taken out.
Are you sure you're going to be satisfied with the power of the 328xi? The VQ has much torquier powerband than the 328i engine. It N52 is more refined though. I also never liked Infinit's "bees in a can" exhaust sound. Also, how did you "order" a car and have it come in a few weeks. Sounds like you're getting a car that was already made and they're just re-routing to your dealer. I'd add comfort access though, you were spoiled on your infiniti and you're going to miss it on a car that you're planning on keeping for a long time. You're buying a car for over $40,000K add the options.

I actually ordered it a few weeks ago, that's why it's coming in a few more. I did order Comfort Key Access. In fact, if I didn't want comfort key, I could have driven off that day with my car, but since they are harder to find (according to the dealer), it had to be ordered.
I might miss the power of the G35x, but I just couldn't swing a new 335 and I had to draw the line with the 328xi at 40k. I valued the nav over the sports package. Originally I was going to get a 328i without Nav, and then I added Nav, and then I decided to get the xi, and suddenly, this purchase was getting out of control! I ultunately decided I wanted a brand new 328xi over a CPO 335 because I wanted an exact color combo/options and didn't want to get a car with 30k miles when my G35x lease is up and I only have 20k miles... |

infinity HP is over rated, and BMW 328 HP is under rated... in BMW you will experience more power, much better handling and all controls at your fingertips, right where everything should be,- it is a drivers car!

Are you really implying that a 328 has more power than a G35/37? No way in hell..... 6MT 328 is the only way it's even tolerable, at least for me. I agree that the 328 BMW is the better car though if you take HP out of the mix. All in all congrats OP.....but it looks like you might've jumped the gun a little too quickly. You should've taken the time to research what options are worth getting and shopped around a little more IMO. Sports Package is a must for any BMW. Don't sweat it though, enjoy the new ride

Nissan has been doing a pretty good job lately at squeezing all hell out of their V6s. For that I commend them. They sound pretty good, too. I personally like the 328 (LCI), and wouldn't mind owning one... ...with the BMW Performance package on it Even though that's around $17K in parts, that's just about the only way I'd own one. That thing is DOPE.

So...get an e90 335 LCI with the BMW Performance package on it, even better. My SA showed me a 2010 LCI 335 w/ BMW Perf kit on it. Sticker price: $56K Absolutely badass.

$56K? With ALL options? Seems like it could hit 60 or more. I saw a fully loaded 1 series with the performance package on it at my dealer for $57K. And you're totally right about badass. I want one now
