Question about Morel Hybrid Ovation 4" set

Hello and new to the forum,

My car is a 2009 E90 with 10 speaker Hi-Fi.

I have a question in regards to the Morel Hybrid Ovation component set.

With only running the 2-way 4" up front using a Zapco reference 200.2 in combination with a single IDQ12 in the trunk powered by a Zapco reference 350.2 HP/LP at 90hz with 18db slope (AudioControl 2xs), will the 4" mid be capapble of handling above 90hz with any authority without replacing and using the under seat speakers?

Thanks,
John

I would not do it... I would play it down to 150 ONLY. And then only if the user doesn't beat on the system.

But you will have a huge hole anyway. You need the underseats. ADMW9!

I run the HO 4 in my car and I install them all the time...I only go down to 200 with most customers.

Okay, thanks for your input.

I really want the Hybrid Ovations, but can't afford both those and the ADMW's at the same time.

A local authorized Morel dealer will sell the Hybrid Ovations for $650.00, which IMO is a great price. I will buy those now, and the ADMW's at a later time.

Have you tried the ADMW 6's? The price difference is negligible, but maybe an easier fitment.

Thanks again.

Of course, the ADMW 9's would allow me drop the IDQ12 HP/LP to 70hz or 60hz. Maybe even reverse the amps and run the IDQ12 from the reference 200 and the Morels with the reference 350.

Any comments or suggestions?

Alas, I must have patience.

The ADMW6 is easier to install, sure. I wouldn't do it.

You problem is you lack amp channels. I wouldn't hesitate to use 50x2 bandpassed on the OE 8" (in fact, I have) from 50 to 200. I would rather do that than have a trunk sub. I assume you already own the gear you list apart from the HOs.

Even if you got Dotech 4 AND ADMW9 (not much more) you can't power the ADMW9 unless you run the amps backwards, as you said, and use the 150hz passive. It works, but the guy I did it for plays rock, not rap or hip hop. I would be worried about taking a 4 to 150 if you were playing "urban" bass.

What would work great in your situation would be a DC650 amp. 50 to the doors, 50 to the 8", and 350-500 to the sub.

Who are you working with in MO?

Hmmm, you given me some things to think about.

Yes, I do have the equipment I've listed. I also have an older Zapco AG350 just sitting on my desk. I really don't want to invest more in amps.

I'm not working with any one shop. The local Morel dealer here is NW Audio.
I've talked a little with Josh from JML audio. He sells Hertz, but I think I like Morels more. He did a custom Hertz set for an M3 posted on his site, but I think I like Morels better.

I do my own install. I just been out of the loop the past 5 years

I don't play HIPPEty HOp. I'm more Mozart, Beethoven, Talking Heads, Dave Brubeck, Beatles, Richard Thompson.....

I was picturing a setup of Hybrid Ovations 4" with ADMW 9's or 6's from say 60hz HP on the Reference 350, and the IDQ 12 LP from say 60hz on the Reference 200. The feeling I get from you is that the 150z to 200hz is going to be the problem area with this set up.

I'm not opposed to losing the IDQ12 and using the Ref200 on the HO's and the Ref350 on the ADMW9's if the can extend low enough.

I would try the 200 bridged on the 12, 60 and down, and the 350 stereo to the ADMW9 and the Dotech 4 with the tweeter on -3db and the ADMW passives in place at 150. I think it would be really goof for you.

Sounded really good in a 135 I did with his sub.

I think using any 8-ish speaker in that location needs some EQ to sound real good if it is playing all the way down.

Hertz dropped the 4 comp set and the flat 8 this year, so dealers are pissed when BMWs show up.

So let it be done....

I wouldn't think either that any woofer can extend very low in the "enclosure" under the seats (which is why I was factoring in the IDQ12). I was just wondering what your experience with that was.

I appreciate your input!

You'd be surprised. But most woofers tend to have a peak and if you want them to seem to have a wider response, you need to be able to damp that peak down a tad.

What you need is a DSP-6

Oh, and I do admit I went about that bass ackwards. I decided I wanted to use Zapco amps all along based on my past experience with them, but I should have decided on speaker set up first, then proper amplification.

I'm too impulsive at times

Just for kicks, I'd try it without the 12 at first if you can HP the 9s at say, 30Hz or so. Might be a better use of power.

That was a thought of mine. If it don't work out, toss the 12 back in.

Right now, I have no equalization. I would work that in at a later time.

You have to understand, I'm fortunate that my wife is letting me do this, but on an incremental bugdeted "allowance" if you will
