winter tyres in the uk
Has anyone got a recommendation for winter tyres & steel wheels in the UK? These items do not appear to readily available in the UK.
I realise this is an unusual thing for a UK driver to want but I drive in all conditions and head North regularly where it can snow heavily. In addition the OCD part of me thinks I will get better wet weather performance over the AS tyres once the temperature falls. I tried my BMW dealer but they wanted £417 (USD 793) for one 16 inch steel wheel including a Dunlop SP Winter Sport M3 DSST 205/55 R16 91H tyre. Thanks |

I am also looking at winter tyres. My dealer in Aberdeen quoted me £155 per tyre for Continental WinterContact TS 810 S SSR tyre for an E91 2.0D. I also have a quote of £105 per tyre for Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 ZP tyres from Cosco. I think they include VAT and fitting. Pirelli and Dunlop also have winter run flat tyres available.

I never thought of asking Costco despite having a membership.
What are you doing about wheels? I believe that it is better to have another set of wheels for the winter tyres. I have never bought after market wheels so don't know where to start. Thanks |

Winter Tyres in UK
I eventually got the Continental WinterContact TS 810 S SSR at £145 per tyre from a local dealer. I'm sure any tyre dealer would be able to get them. This was £10 per tyre less than the BMW dealer. I am using the same rims as for standard tyres. No snow yet but have driven in temperaures down to
-6c over the last few weeks. Good drive also on motorways. Have not noticed any difference in comfort from standard tyres. The Michelins from Cosco seemed a good buy but when I wanted them there were none in the country. I am thinking now about getting some extra weight to put in the boot for better traction in snow.
