i put m3 19in style 67 on an e90, some questions please...
So i bought some M3 oem 19in style 67 wheels and tires to put on an e90, got them with tires for only $250 gave him my old oem 17in style 159 wheels and tires. The M3 wheels are bmw oem made in germany.
I did some research and the front are 19x8 with 225/40s (tires seem stretched), and the rear are 19x9.5 with 255/30s (little stretched looking i think). i think a 235/35 and 265/30 might look fuller, pretty sure he had narrower tires cause of rubbing issues on his car. ANYHOW... wondering if some of the pros on here can look this over and give me some feedback, ive searched and read a lot the last couple days and the wife needs more of my time, lol The front has good clearance but looks like i could add spacers and push the wheels out a bit towards the fender, there is about an inch between the edge of fender and the lip on rim. front front The rear has good clearance in and out and sits nice, not too tucked. rear rear the offsets on the original wheels were 34 all around. The new wheels are 47 in the front, and 27 in the rear. I DONT KNOW much about offset except the concept. The calculator says that the front has "13mm LESS clearance on the strut side, and the outside edge of the wheel will RETRACT 13mm". So i need a spacer then since i lost 13mm?????? The calculator for the rear says "12mm LESS clearance on the strut side, and the outside edge of the wheel will EXTEND an extra 26mm". Do i need a spacer here, i think they look great in the rear. Also are spacers just cosmetic or improve handling? Also the car handles a bit funny now, feels top heavy and edgy, probably needs an alignment and some new tires???? (pretty worn down tires on the rims i bought) Thanks. Last edited by mike3000fl; 03-01-2010 at 06:43 AM.. |

Get 15mm spacers in the front, making it ET32.

pics as promised
So it sounds like i could purchase spacers... BUT is it just for looks or to help handling also? My car does handle differently but i think it's because it needs an alignment due to the larger wheels and different offsets. Thanks. Last edited by mike3000fl; 03-01-2010 at 03:49 PM.. |

Soooo.... anyone have their handling initially get worse jumping from stock 17's to staggered 19's? spacers help fix that??? did an alignment fix it??? maybe the tires being almost down to slicks is the issue??? |

ordered and installed turner 12.5mm spacers to give me an overall 34.5 offset, original wheels were 34, figured it would keep the steering geometry as close to what the suspension was designed for. The machined spacers were quite beautiful, lol, and very easy to install.
Test drove the car and it feels much more neutral now, less hesitant, no strange handling characteristics at all, no pulling. Maybe the 47mm offset was negatively affecting the "scrub radius" and adding the spacer to bring them back to 34 fixed that. Feels really good at high and low speeds. Turn in is decisive and kinda carves thru the turn like you are on rails. Another question.... anyone notice that the left front wheel sticks out further than the right front wheel or is it my imagination??? |

UPDATE: had car aligned. Toe was off in front and rear and some other angles. Got everything back in spec. Car handles perfect now.
Rear camber is in spec but just barely, is this something they just cant get right cause they are lazy or do i need camber plates or something to get this exactly where it needs to be? Stock nonsport suspension. |
