Deep Lip - What advantage?

Im still trying to decide on what wheels to get. I like both the look of with and without a deep lip. I was curious if there was an advantage of having a lip or not having one for that matter? Is it just cosmetic?

Only thing I can think of is that a deep lip wheel will have less chance of getting curb rash on the spokes themselves. You can still mess up the lip, and it may even be a bit easier to bend the lip itself on a deep lip wheel since it has less support. Most deep lip wheels are also multi piece though, so any damaged parts can be more easily replaced. That's all I could come up with though.

Good question.. cosmetic and you can screw up while parking your car and hit the foothpath and only ruin your lip, won't damage the spokes.
