Winter Tire install costs?

What do you think is a reasonable cost to have your current tires removed and new snow tires mounted and balanced? Most places are quoting me $30 per wheel($25 for the mounting/balance of the new ones and $5 dismounting the old ones). Just wanna make sure this is reasonable.

Hydraulic trolley jack + axle stands: $60
Torque wrench: $40
Freedom to change wheels over whenever you want: priceless

Yes, those are reasonable prices you were quoted. It takes a shop about 20-30 min to do if they lift the whole car.

Are you talking about just removing tires from the wheels and putting new tires on the same wheels? If so, I founds several quotes that were about the same as that. $30/wheel.

Yea, I need the existsing tires removed from the existing rims, then the snows mounted on the rims, then onto the car. I found a local place, that will do it for $27.50 a wheel. They are listed at Tirerack.com and have great reviews, so we'll see. The car is in, having it done, as I type this.

Have you considered getting wheels for the winter tires and saving the wear and tear on the current wheels from switching tires twice a year?

Since I currently have 16" rims, I'm doing it the other way around. I'm putting the snows on the 16's and when spring rolls around, buying a set of 17's with summer tires.

Good plan. The 16" will make a good winter set and the 17" summers will give you the extra performance. I went from 18" summer to 17" winter and although I miss the summer smoothness (almost hovercraft-like), the winters are behaving very well so far.
