winter run flats or not?

How do you guys feel about running non-run flats in the winter and just carrying a sealant kit in the trunk?

That's what I am doing... I put non-RFT Yoko winters on my stock 161s and have a tire repair kit (the Airman from Canadian Tire, comes with a compressor and Dunlop tire sealant) in the trunk just in case.

Might want to check out this German car magazines review of winter tires. Every runflat outperformed the non runflats. Runflats are better than non for winter driving. Don't see much point in going non-rf for winter, summer is different case altogether! Here is the link... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35570 its about 5 posts lower right now.

One thing to note is that this stands mainly for high speed rated winter tires, if you go with q-rated "pussy winters" than you will probably get better snow traction with non runflat (like the original blizzacks, not the LM series). Remember that these q-rated ones are better in actual snow but will wear away and handle like crap for the 85% of winter when the roads are plowed or dry.

I'm even less interested in changing a flat when it's -10 with 40mph winds, than I am in the middle of the summer.

Runflats year round for me.

Same. I had a flat once on my QX4 with a 275/45/20 tire on a 20x8.5" rim, it was hell changing it on the roadside...

I just put on a set of Hakka RSI's in runflats. They are somewhere around a Q rated tire, ie 110 mps tops. I think the runflats actually handle better on the dry pavement then the non runflats that I have had in the past. I think the stiffer sidewall takes away some of the squish factor. I was pleasantly suprised with the handling on dry pavement, I was expecting worse. Don't know about the snow because we haven't had enough yet to try them out! Like all of the past Hakka's that I have had, I expect that they will kick butt.
