German Castrol = Very Happy N54!

So I decided to bite the bullet and fill my 335 up with the holy gold liquid. I know its a favorite in the audi+VW turbo realm, so I thought it would be a safe bet.

So after filling it up, I fired it up and right away noticed the VANOS tick that has plagued my past e39 525 and my new e92 was nonexistant. In fact, the engine in general is overall quieter at both idle and while opened up. Noises that I thought were normal in the 11k miles I've put on the car were suddenly absent. It was strange.

That isnt what I like most about it, though. I took it for a run tonight and I did a couple WOT pulls. I dont know if its the ambient air temp (50 degrees), but after several WOT pulls it barely started to break 225, and quickly dropped back down to 217-218ish. I cant wait to see what it does in the summer, where my temp hovers at 240+ with BMW 5w-30. My normal operating temp in this weather is typically 230ish.

However, I have noticed one thing I'm not so sure I like. It might be all in my head, but the turbos dont seem to spool as quickly. The power is the same, but there is a slightly noticable increase in turbo lag. Also, the engine doesnt seem as free-revving, if that makes sense.

Like I said though, it might all be in my head. What I do know is that it runs cooler, and that alone has me SOLD on this stuff.

Nope. German castrol is the 0w-30 stuff you buy at your local auto parts store, says specifically on the back of the bottle "made in germany". The 5w-30 you buy from BMW is Castrol, but it isnt the same as GC.

Looks like this

from my understanding german castrol is equvalant to bmw 5w30 but GC and BMW 5w30 are both different than off the shelve synthetic castrol 5w30 at the box store...

Castrol Syntec European Formula SAE 0W-30 is LL-01 rated for the US market.

I think it would be beneficial going to it since it's 0 weight when cold vs 5W for the BMW oil, and that would reduce wear at cold start, when a lot of wear occurs.
