Orange Car on lift service symbol?

Hey all,

Now let me begin by saying I don't know much about bmw and I don't even own one. My girlfriend does and so I'm trying to learn all I can about them. However recently the orange service light has been coming on when starting her 06 330i. Now I automatically assumed that it just needed an oil change and air filters, ya know standard maintence stuff. However when I scroll through the service menu I see that theres still 8000 or 3 months left on her oil and everything is good except for the orange car on a lift symbol. It says shes got 370 miles left on that. Now I have read that when this light comes on with the brake light on it means brakes and what not. I have not been able to find what this light means in regards to simple service however. Im assuming it means the car just needs some sort of inspection? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!

Just a general inspection. I think it's set to come up every 30,000 miles.

We just got this symbol on our 2010 328. Its about a year old and
600 or 700 miles (don't drive much). I called the dealer service area
and the guy had no clue about this symbol.

So Have no idea what the car could want, unless a yearly inspection.

What I would call a standard inspection - all fluid checks, general wear and tear check, drive belt check, signs of fluid weeping and leaking, all exterior lights, tire pressures & tread inspections, anything out of the norm...generally a road worthy check. You could also call it a "Since you're my gf, and I care for you; I will actually inspect the car and not just do a CBS reset because it would pain me to know you fcuking died due to my negligence and you'd probably come back and haunt my ass" Check.

The dealer will also hook up his diagnostic computer and get a code(s) readout.

Warranty does not cover maintenance.

Ok, I don't mean to be rude here but does no one read their manual anymore? The descriptions of all the icons are in there. If you don't understand it (yes the manual can be vague) do a search. I know for a fact this has been discussed. I'm not trying to be "that guy" but this type of thread pops up here all the time.

This is an old thread. Based on txvette's statements, the car is a year old and has 700 miles on it (I'm surprised the battery has lasted that long), so logically the indication is for the yearly state inspection (if it has been set in the system) and not the 30,000 mile inspection symbol that appears and everyone asks questions about.

In the internet age, no one seems to read the manual of the $50,000 car they just bought. They figure they can just go to the net a find out (and get a million different opinions, like this one...)

No, but the Free Mainentance is in force during the OEM warranty period.

And while the car on a lift symbol does indicate a 30k Inspection, it can also indicate brake or electrical problems.

All cars are starting fine. Even the Vette that was driven 200 miles
last year. joys of a small town, nothing is far. Sure glad don't have
long commutes like some. like said called the dealer, service tech
had never seem the symbol. So if get around to wanting to drive into
the city will have him look at it. He told me with driving so few miles
don't worry about a thing. If it does die, just call they will come and
get it
