Exclamation Engine noise level

I have a very loud engine noise inside of my X1 xDrive 20d. Not only when accelerating but also on the highway though lower level, even at steady 130 km/h. The Serie1 18d of my son is much-much quieter.

Is there any reason why the X1 engine is louder? Is it normal or I should have the engine checked?

Thanks
G

I think the concept of the X1 is different than the 1 and 3 series, if you take a look in the engine compartment you will see that the position of the engine is more at the back of it. Before I drived a 320d touring and he was noiseless compared to my new X1. But to much noise indicate a check by a specialised dealer.

The sound of my X1 is higher than my old E90.

I think it's because of less soundproofing of the cabin (engine, doors ,...)

I am watching too

I used a 318d E90 while my X1 18d was with the dealer for a day. Didn't notice any significant difference in engine noise, and felt road noise was higher on the 318.

I think that one day isnot enought time to notice differences.

I was driving for almost 5 years a E90 320d and the differences are considerable.

My new 2.3d has arrived and I have driven it for on mixed roads in mixed conditions, I can confirm the engine is QUIET in normal driving.

WHEN CRUISING ON ANY ROADS IT IS QUIETER THAN MY PREVIOUS 3 SERIES 2D.

UNDER HARD ACCELERATION THERE IS A LOUD PLEASANT EXHAUST NOTE, LOUDER THAN THE ENGINE BUT THE ENGINE IS LOUD UNDER HARD ACCELERATION ,ONLY, AS TO BE EXPECTED.

The sales guy i test drove with (the car having just come out here in Aussie) mentioned that he felt that the 20d was indeed louder than the 23d (for whatever reason). Whether that's just a 'feeling' or reality, who knows...

The most annoying noise i can notice is air noise at "high" velocities 100 km/h or so.. due huge mirrors.

Under hard acceleration if you are on back seats even in driver seat you can listen a metallic sound coming from exhaust system. Some kind of racing reverberation sound..

Angry X1: Wind And Noise

Hello

A few days ago I read this forum and I have a X1 recently, I was very surprised how many people who complain about the same as I have complained to BMW, the car is very noisy in my view.

1 .- Long ago the engine noise at low speeds
2 .- For the 120-130 km / h is also very loud noise in the latter case air, that is streamlined, the end is, a problem of sound insulation.

The engine noise problem is due in large part it is NOT BLANKET INSULATION MOTOR NOISE. INCREDIBLE. Neither the X1 or the Series-1 have the blanket Motor, the problem is that X1 is heavier and makes the engine makes more noise than the Series-1.

And no one told me when I bought the car that had no insulation blanket ENGINE NOISE, is something I understand a mark at this level and price should be taken into account.

I have consulted on the possibility of BMW's MANTA ENGINE NOISE INSULATION or adapt a blanket of X3 and not advise me to do yourself.

I recommend that you do get my e-mail complaint to the Customer of BMW because if you asked many people believe will end the MANTA ENGINE NOISE ISOLATION as in the other BMW models. It's been other times in the past.

Who does not complain I guess that does not bring anything.

Another problem is noise they make car mirrors to 120-130km / h, long aerodynamic noise, it seems that is because they have saved money on the rubber on the doors, on the other X series models are rubbers of double doors and X1 are simple, isolated half the noise.

The tires are the single door that uses the Series 1 and of course the X1 is far greater and greater volume more noise which makes friction with the air, should have the same rubber insulation that the series X, so when you go to 120km / h looks like it will lift a great wind, a lot of noise as if the window was not closed. Surely you feel the same, send it to Customer Service and you can double Gum at the Gates.

Greetings
