Tinting Question
Guys, i could have sworn that the tint i put on my e46 at my dealer only cost $175. Patrick BMW told me today that they charge $495 for a light ceramic tint.
Does this sound right? Has tint gone up that much? Nathan |

It sounds a little nuts-o. I don't know what the ceramic tint is, but for regular tint on four windows, plus the two small rear windows, and the back window, it shouldn't cost any more than $250-$275 at a regular tint shop. It might be more at a dealer, but the only way I can see spending $500.00 on tinting windows is if they are tinted by electrolysis, rather than just ordinary tint film. Look around, at custom shops if you have to. I'm sure you can find a better deal.

Thanks man, that is exactly what i thought. They said the ceramic tint they use doesn't interfere with electronics etc. but i didn't buy that crap.
I may just not tint at all now. Let's see. Nathan |

I don't claim to be a tinting expert, but ceramic tint is tint that is Non-Metallic. Conventional tint is metallic and may interefere with radio reception of vehicles that use windshiled or glass antennas such as on the rear window. Cermaic tint does not do this however because it does not contain the metallic properties that metal film has. This is also why it is more expensive. But in our case, with the new 3 series, the antenna is the shark-fin style antenna which is mounted at the end of the roof just above the rear window. Radio reception is not affected, regardless of which type of tint film you use.

I will admit, I've seen a blue BMW with 50% tint all the way around once and it was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen. The really light tint really set the whole car off. I know a lot of people like it darker for privacy, but I always liked it for looks. But then I gave it some serious thought and decided against it. I've had my old car professionaly tinted three years ago with 35% all around, and already it's turning purple. Plus, I don't need any tickets or trouble seeing at night.

I think some tint looks terrific on a dark colored car becaus then you don't have the light coming through the windows breaking up the overall look of the car, but I have to say that a dark tint on light colored cars has the complete opposite effect.
