Service Engine Soon Light on after 4000 miles on 335D

Uh?... Service Engine Soon light came on today after only 4000 miles?. Last fill-up was a week ago... BMW Asst. asked that question when I called. Nothing showing up on I-Drive that says I have a problem. Dealer say could be an emissions issue?. WFT?. Any Ideas?. Is it possible the car could lose power?. Don't know if true of not - but my pick up seems less since I first bought the car or am I just looking for things to find wrong now that the engine light has come on?.

Take it in to the dealer and see what they find. My best guess is some kind of glitch in the system, although any number of problems could cause the light to come on.

You called Assist because your service engine warning came on. LOL

Could they possibly even tell you what is wrong with the car?

If it is a new car, and you care about the paint job, put a big note on the steering wheel "Do not wash".

My car was just serviced and they washed it (two days after I had hand washed it). They put a mess o swirls in the paint job.

But it is causing me to give it a long overdue proper buffing and detail.

My 335d had a service engine light came on the other day too. I had aprox. 5000 miles. The service adviser offered to reset the Service Engine Light and see if it comes back on, and it came back after 20 miles or so. I brought it back, and a day later I was told it was NOX Sensor that had a short.

The report I got said "Found faults 4BF0 and 4744 stored in dde control unit"

Took bmw a few days to get the parts, but after that, everything is fine.

It's an annoyance, but what can you do? I still love my D

I just found out from service manager that the sat radio reprogram will turn the light on in the 335d. Don't know if you had that done but if you did....that may be it...

Well, my "Service Engine Soon" light just came on. 1225miles, it shows on the cluster, but Idrive does not report anything - All Systems OK. I send the report to BMW, and display indicates that BMW will contact me...
Should I set up appointment at my dealer or wait for the call?

Thanks.

That is BS. In the 3 years that I've had my car, it has notified them several times when it is due for service but not once have I gotten a call from the service department.

I called SA at the morning, he said give it a weekend and see if it goes away if it doesn't they will set up appointment next week. While on the phone SA said that this is emissions system most likely since I'm not experiencing any difference in performance; also he said that I may need software update too. The SA mentioned that it could be something simple as not having fuel cup night enough, which I checked and tighten up - I thought there was different symbol for that.
Oddly enough I drove a car to a vet after the call (not more than 2 minutes) and the light went away.
Later, I did receive phone call from BMW, about 3hrs after my conversation, trying to set up appointment as well.
I guess, I'll wait till next time.

Is there a way of checking what software ECU has, and what is the newest one?
Thanks

It looks like it's a trend for 335D. I got SES at 5700 miles. SA said that "injector that injects small amount of diesel to exhaust system to neutralize NOx" had failed. He probably meant Urea, not diesel.

It looks like this new idea of cleaning NOx in the exhaust system was not tested well. I'm curious how much the repair would cost when it's out of warranty and how often it will happen in the future

Check your warranty you will find that pollution control items are warranted for 100K miles. So I am not to worried.

I'm at 4,400 miles and just placed an order for Quartz Ineo MC3 5w-30. Right now you can buy 8 liters for ~$56 and shipping is free.

It's an interesting thought about oil. My mechanic who also happened to be a friend of our family advised to disregard BMW official guide and change oil every 5000 miles. It would be interesting to hear forum's opinion about that.
