Ticket Rant
Got my first ticket in the 1er today...101k in a 60k zone. I guess I was supposed to slow down a lil bit more for that exit ramp off the autobahn, but they're claiming a construction zone to double my fine? You put out a total of three cones and get to call it a construction zone?
So, that's my rant...I get what I have coming..my led foot totally deserves this, and damn it was fun passing all those cars, but wow...these German tickets aint cheap! |

Did you get BLITZ'd (camera flash) or did they pull you over and make you pay right then and there! COD so to speak!
Anytime the speed limit goes to 80 kph you gotta look out for cameras. And its almost(90%) a sure deal when it goes down to 60 kph on the autobahn!! Or... its a control setup. Thats goota be one hefty ticket. What 150 euros and four points? Maybe more. I know on "our base" when soldiers get Blitz'd the following month or two... the local Polizei comes to the PMO (porvost marhsals office). They are smart and come on pay day too!!! You get summoned to the PMO and you better bring euros. The ATM is right next door to the MPs. lol Good Luck, Bro. David PS: drive carefully for teh next few weeks. IF you get caught again the Krauts have a nice little law that says you a habitual offender and your 2nd fine will be HUGE. Probably loose your lic for six months too. |

I only can recommed you to slow down in EVERY construction zone @ Autobahn
The construction zones are dedicated for cameras (Blitzer).. the police can use the Blitzer on locations, where they´re normally not able to install them. Also they´re able to earn LOTS of money, because not everybody is slowing down.. :P btw. Is the german police able to confiscate your driving-licence? AFAIK you loose the licence for 1 month, if you´re going more than 39 km/h over the limit. Here is a good link to check, what you can expect: http://www.busgeldrechner.de/

RobMason--haha, I WISH! I have been here so long I shorthand everything...so yes, kph.
It was a car parked on the side of the autobahn that had a camera set up...saw a flash but it was too late. So yes, the original fine is 160...but since it was in a construction zone, they are doubling the fine...thats 320 euro, plus 20 euro "processing" fee...now we're up to 340 euro. THEN, I found out this afternoon that I can either A) lose my license for one month, or B) file a formal objection and pay a HIGHER fine to keep my license. I filed the objection, so when the dust settles, we're looking at around 600 euro = $1000 bucks. I know...some people would just hand over their license for the bucks..I'm a single mom...must have wheels So I learned $1000 lesson....three coned construction zones are no bullsh*t speed traps.. |

I was driving from Spangdahlem to Ramstein..the trap was set up right when I was getting off the A27 onto the A1...around the Wittlich exit. There has always been cones there marking the two lanes into one, never any "construction", and usually not a car parked there. I guess I just got lucky.

Online. Yes it's illegal. The only way you would be caught is if you got flashed, and then the polizei were waiting down the road a bit. They would see the blinded photo and maybe inspect your plates. The blocker is like clear enamel in spray form with reflective properties so it will make your plates shiny. I never had any issue though. It's not like you were the first one to have those plates anyway. Assuming you have USAEUR plates. The driver before you may have done it.

LOL. Yeah, I was just alluding to the fact that IF for some unfortunate reason you were caught with it on your plates, you could blame it on the last guy lol. Ex: Someone is running around protected right now because of me hahaha.

That's pretty slick with the reflective coating.
I always fly through that on ramp- only thing that slows me down is traffic or the curve itself. Guess I've been lucky. You might have caught the only nice day of weather - they always set up on nice days knowing everyone is happy to speed. |

So today my formal objection was approved. That means I am not losing my license! So I went and picked up my new ticket and was merrily on my way!
So I had to drive to Ramstein this afternoon...I went 80kph all the way through the construction zone Then about 5k before Baumholder, I came out of a construction zone, back to no speed limit...then about 100 yards later it went back down to 100...for no reason..no construction. So I slowed down...started talking to my passenger and **FLASH**! I look down and I am cruising at 120. Awesome. AWESOME. Another speed trap. Just a heads up...
