Changing Battery

I just recently changed my e92 battery with one from kragen, which is a local automotive shop. the battery i bought was called super start extreme, installed it and everything seems to be fine. however my mechanic friend told me that i need to replace it with an oem one asap or else it will explode because 2005 and up bmws use AGM (glass mat battery) which charges 40amps constant, which my kragen battery cannot take.

DAMN IT what do i do? I just spend like 200 on a battery, now I can't return it and instead get another 300 dollar oem battery and reinstall again..

your take??

Call the battery manufacturer and ask if their battery can take 40 amps charge.

I'm not sure if the OEM battery is glass mat or not. I'm not sure it matters either, but what you do need to do is get the ECU reset to tell the car a new battery was installed or it will not charge properly. Real OEM shows a buch of different batteries for the E90. Three are listed as AGM the others are not listed as AGM. I don't think it matters.

The OEM battery is a AGM battery. You can replace it with a regular battery, but you need to take it to the dealer so they can set your cars computer to tell it there is a new battery and it is not AGM. Dealer will probably charge you $50 or so to do this.

Have a look at at least: www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-6.htm

I'm no expert either, but batteries are not charged with Amps but with Volts. And that's the same voltage for AGM and std lead acid. The difference is in BMW efficient dynamics, were a car ECU plays with the charge level of the battery, based on what battery type and size it thinks is installed.

idk who told you that batteries were charged with volts not amps but they werent really correct...however..this isnt a lesson on batteries or charging systems. anywho, most E90s dont come with AGM batteries-bmw AGM batteries are in a black case instead of the normal white cases. white case=lead acid battery. however, your cars battery SHOULD be OEM and registered via the dealership to ensure proper charging and proper function of your vehicle.
