Favorite Northeast Drives?
Just took a trip through the Shawangunk ridge via Route 44/55 near New Paltz, NY! Awesome views, good straights and some awesome twisties. The best was a little 5 mph hair pin. It just begs to be pushed hard!!!!
Any thought on some good drives in the N.E? I am somewhat new to the forum so if this is a duplicate, my bad! |

Route 97 from Port Jervis, NY up through Hawk's Nest and further north is a great drive. Very scenic in the summer and fall, but pretty crowded. Get on it on a warmer winter day, when the traffic is light, and you can have fun and still have great views.
New York State Route 97

Easyman This may be a bit long from Queens, but the roads are fantastic: Go over the GW bridge, take the first exit-North on the Palisades Parkway. Drive north (about 1/2 hour) to Exit 15 Gate Hill Rd. At the exit, turn left, follow the road east to route 9W North (turn left). (9W is all fast, sweeping turns from there to Bear Mt. It includes a twisting climb over another mountain, before you get to the Park. Drive right past Bear Mt. Park, go over the Bear Mt. Bridge, and turn right. It's another fast, twisty uphill. There is a scenic lookout over the river-near the summit. After taking a stretch, get back on the road in the same direction. It has the tightest, twistiest switchbacks in the area. Run it all the way down to a traffic circle, then turn around, and run it backwards. Over the bridge, you can go straight through the traffic circle, to the P.I.P., and blast home Have fun, Ray Lynch |

No blasting on the PIP unless you have radar detectors and are sitting in the cradle...
