Brake Pad Wear

Does anybody know if my brake pads have 40% remaining, under normal driving how many more kms can I get out of them? I am hoping not to have the brake pads replaced before my lease return so just want an idea.

I don't mean to jack your thread, but how do you know the % remaining? The reason I ask is b/c my rear brake pad change mileage has been increasing. It has gradually gone up from 12,000 miles left to 15,000 miles left but I have never seen a percentage indicator.

Sounds about right, 40%. You've used about 60% of them.

Even with the brake sensors and the on board computer service indicator there is no real way of knowing how much of your brake pads are left. The computer reading tends to be real inaccurate espesially with the rear brake pads.

I cannot agree more.

When I took my car in for the vehicle check, the dealership checked the thickness left on the brake pads.

Fronts had about 7mm left, iDrive service menu says I can drive for another 12,000 miles before I need to change pads.

Rears have about 4mm left, iDrive service menu says I can drive for another 15,000 miles before I need to change pads.

With 7mm left on the pads you could drive 12,000 miles (approx.), but with 4mm left on pads you could drive 15,000 miles (approx.)? I'm still on the pads that came with the car and obviously, the rear pads have worn faster than the front pads for the first 30,000 miles that I have driven. How does this make any sense?
