San Diego Shop Recommendations for Hardwiring Passport Radar

Can anyone recommend a shop in the San Diego area for hardwiring a Passport radar detector into my 2008 M3? I heard La Jolla Audio is good, but was wondering if there are any other recommendations from people out there.

I don't have the kit but I'm sure it would be easy enough to pickup. I just want to make sure that the install looks clean and doesn't splice into any existing wires.

Have you considered the Escort Solo S2?
Had one before that worked fantastic.
Just ordered another one yesterday from ebay for $275.

la jolla audio is probably the best shop in San Diego. VIP in carlsbad was great, until it closed (relocated?). You could also just try San Diego car stereo

I just picked one up from best buy. My plan is to run the cord along the window and then drill out hole in the ashtray so I have the remote close by. I still need to measure to make sure that the ashtray will close with the remote in it but it looks like it will just form the look of it.

I guess all I need to do now is figure out how to remove the center console portion so I can run the wire from the fuse box up into the ashtray. Everything else looks really easy.

Which passport? The $1200 unit which mounts on the outside of the car or the $400 one which mounts on the inside?
I didnt hardwire mine because a BMW tech (friend of mine) said that it can void certain warranties if you do that. He said the wiring it to the glove box with a "add a fuse" kit is the best bet

I have the escort the Passport 9500 which is an internal unit. I am just tired of the cord running up the console from the cigarette lighter.

By hardwire I meant wire it so that there is a direct line into the fuse box. I do not plan on cutting any wires or anything like that. The current plan of attack is to add a circuit on the fuse box and tie the kit into that. Then run a wire under the console and mount the remote in the ashtray. I really enjoy the lockout and mute feature on the remote/cord and do not want to have to reach up to the unit and fumble for the buttons.

All in all it looks pretty simple so I'm going to try and knock it out in about an hour after work today. I just have to see if I like mounting it on the lower part of the window or up by the rear view mirror. I've always had it on the lower part of the window but now that I don't have a cord running from the ashtray it maybe better to have it near the rear view mirror.

If I ever have any warranty issues I'll simply remove the circuit and and wiring in about 5 min and take it into the dealer. Honestly I don't see any electrical issues coming up seeing I've had the car 2 years now and it has been fine w the exception of the itunes adapter always coming lose.

Scott and the gang over at La Jolla Audio are very good. But they're also very pricey. Be prepared to pay top dollar for their expertise.
