XEDE + STEPTRONIC Question for Shiv

As everyone knows, with the steptronic transmission, when you shove the shifter knob to the left, you get into sport mode and the transmission shifts down a gear and the throttle feels more responsive.

I understand that the Xede can hold 2 maps so I was wondering if it's possible to keep the Normal Drive mode as Map#1 "normal factory tuned mode" and when you shift to sport mode, it will switch the Xede to Map #2 which is of course the higher HP mode. Of course this would only work for AT's to eliminate the need for wiring a switch to do this or Pop open the hood and switching it.

What are your thoughts??

I was thinking of the same thing and probably would have posted this question if you did not. It would be a really neat feature but I don't know how difficult it would be to implement. The most important thing would be to handle the paddle shifters because they will take you to Manual mode from standard Drive for a period of time. I think you would have to find the signal that says you are in Manual (and possibly also Sport) mode and use this to activate a relay that that would switch maps. This might be easy or hard but I think it would be a real selling point if it could be done for a reasonable cost.

IMO, much better to flip the switch to load a specific tune then do what you want with the step (leave it in auto or switch in MM mode). That way factory settings (in that case transmission) are left alone.

Then some would have to pull over, pop the hood, and get in there to flip the switch. Some people have leased cars and don't want to drill any holes in the cabin to run a switch.

It would be nice to leave it in drive mode for normal commutes and switch to Sport mode for spirited driving with the extra kick.

^ I don't think there was an idea behind the switch to allow any drilling and major interior changes. Plus, the switch according to duscussion is supposed to be inside the car and easy to istall/remove. To activate the map with the step changes requires more modification, IMO.

Yeah, no drilling will be required.

I think he said/ or someone pointed out how it was impractical in some way.

Yep, you are correct. I asked Shiv about this. Currently there is no way to program this the maps into the Regular drive mode and the Manual drive mode. They use the same fuel maps. However, you can manualluy make the change either through jumpering a wire or, if you choose, to install a toggle switch. Be careful what you wish for. If you install an aggressive map which may be unintentionally switched, then you may blow your motor.
