Why do you want the M1?

Have been thinking about this car and if I would really be interested in trading in my beloved 1 for it.
The more I think about it the more I wonder about just what I would want this car for. I don't track (my exuberance is taken out on the fun twisty as often as I can get out). I actually like the balance of performance and luxury I have in my current car (I think the M1 might fall short on the luxury side). I can mod my car to get very good performance (maybe not quite as good as the M1, but close). The M1 would push my budget (know that's not an issue with some people and that's why I put option 3, no hating intended).
So, here’s where I'm left as to why I would do it. What do you think? Have I missed any reasons?

1. Handling
2. Broad Power band
3. Small modern car
4. Creature comforts

You don't need a track to appreciate superior handling and performance.

Those options are limited. I am considering moving "over" (maybe down) from the M3 due to its more tossable nature, cheaper operating costs, and tuning/modding potential.

I am looking for a lighter more agile car. An M car that is closer to what the three series used to be.

BMW seems to be looking to expand their demographic to a younger group of drivers, but I think they will be surprised to find how many "older" folks buy this car with the hope of recapturing a bit of the past. Hopefully it won't disappoint.

+1

Although I dream of more fancy cars now - M3 has always been my dream car when I was in my teens, the E36, and in my early twenties the E46. The current M3 is great but I would love to have something more agile and smaller like the old E36 and E46, and like those two cars - it would be a great DD as well as serving as an occassional track car!

I've always wanted an M3, and until the E92 I may well have done if it had been similar to the E46.

However, it has grown just a bit too much and gained too much weight as well as being too expensive over here so the M1 would be just perfect.

Because i live at 5k feet and anything that's not FI sucks up here. When you look at FI cars.... there aren't alot of options when it comes to comparable price/handling/luxury.

Only 335i and new s4... maybe audi tts.... old 996 911 turbo... out of those... which would you pick? I don't want the issues of a old 996 that's out of or almost out of warranty since this will be my daily driver/track car.

My 335i w/tune only will beat my friends dinan m5 and other friends m6 from 0-130 before they pull on me up here for example. And I'm only running 14 psi... compared to alot of folks running 16psi... so that i don't overspin my turbos...
