Aftermarket Audio/GPS/DVD
I know question has probably been asked over and over again. But here it goes. Is there any good aftermarket system that has the GPS and DVD that will fit in the slot? I know there's some from Pioneer. Has anyone had any experiences with it or other similar ones?

On a 330 (according to you signature), you get Logic7. Logic 7 is not compatible with any aftermarket headunit. There are no adaptors (currently) and its a rather nasty digital bus (MOST for Audio and entertaintment). Plus the wiring for a conventional headunit is not there (no ignition lead, no speed puls, the powerline is switched on lead 30g) etc.
Unless you do some MAJOR modifications, an aftermarket headunit is out of the question. I put an aftermarket headunit / navigation in my eurospec 330 with had no Logic 7, not even the hifi-setup and a simpler than US stock radio (the so called Business radio) and it still was a pita. In short: If you think aftermarket nav is easier or cheaper than the i-drive setup: Fraid not. YouŽd be better off either opting for the factory nav or a seperate Unit such a a garmin, tomtom or pda-based nav.

My 330 hasn't come in yet and I am definately leaving the audio alone so I can't comment too much. If what Tierfreund says is true, you could just pull the leads from other sources which isn't any big deal. Also, you could rewire the whole system if no adapter was/is available and it wouldn't be brain surgery. However, it will be a complete pain in the ass and would sound like garbage because of the lack of signal processing. Probably not worth it at all.
If you haven't bought the car yet, just get the Nav it will be better and cheaper in the end. |

I love the logic 7, 13 speaker system. Why f**k with that? It sounds great to me.

I've been to a local Audio store in my town and the told me that they can put a kenwood (KVT-717DVD) head unit (DVD/GPS, etc) in the original place where the current stereo is. They showed me the frame for the unit and it will replace what is currently there. The frame fills in as the original and where the head piece goes, there is an offset so the actualy face for the unit sits flush and doesn't stick out on the outside edge. He suggested this unit because the LCD angles are very adjustable. I have not gone back to actually set up an appointment because I'm just waiting to see if there are other options out there and see if people post pics of their after market audio installs.
The install tech said the steering wheel controls will still function the same. The one thing he said is he wasn't sure if the blue tooth phone numbers can be displayed on the head unit or have the address book available through the head unit. He was going to look into this for me. JLM |

Be weary, such stores will tell a lot of stories to make the deal, but theyŽll hack up your E90 for good and make a mess of it. Have them show you a working E90 system before you commence. Btw, the aftermarket frame looks lousy. The radio has an offset with it. BMW themselves sell a frame (at least in Europe) that has no offset (though you have to modify the bracket behind the frame to make it fit), that looks a lot nicer. You can find some pics of an aftermarket install with the BMW frame in this thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2894 But again: That car has no Logic 7 and even then, it was really difficult to get it to work at all

I did it! Aftermarket Double DIN Navigation and Bluetooth in E90!
I am currently having a Eclipse AVN5435 double din head unit installed in my E90. I wanted the factory look so I didnt want any of the flip out monitor head units. The AC controls are being mounted above the head unit. I will upload pics when the install is complete in a few days.
My installer ran into some problems today. Would anyone know where to find the speed sensor wire for navigation on the e90? Installation is complete. I have a killer system! I have aftermarket navigation, bluetooth and sirrius radio installed. My system sounds 100 times better than factory! Thanks to everyone on this forum who gave me advice. I have some pics below. lol wtf that bass control is huge. And that nav screen looks out of place, I've never seen a climate control above the screen. You couldn't do it the other way around ? put the nav screen on top ?

Not yet, cos ther is also needed a separate adpater, but it is possibile, you get the functions for volume, track skip and source
I didn't order the adapter cos this unit is TS and is very easy to control it |
