My First BMW
Hey, folks.
Just wanted to introduce myself. I've always been a car enthusiast, but at age 43, I have FINALLY bought the right car, my first BMW. I took delivery of a 335i sedan on Nov. 21, and I'm an absolute convert. I freaking love this car. I had planned to get the 328, but the lack of turbo lag in the amazing 335 engine (plus the 300 lbs./ft. of torque from 1400 RPM up) changed my mind. I have to say in all fairness, though, that the 328 engine is mighty, mighty sweet, and you'll save on gas. Trust me on that part. Anyone thinking of buying an '07 is more than welcome to ask me questions. I test-drove all available variants of the coupe and sedan. Reading this board is entertaining, and there's great info here. You seem like a good group of folks, and I'm really happy to be part of the club. And now, after owning a dozen cars, I finally get it. Toasting Bavaria, John |

Sounds good, which dealership did you go to and did you test drive couple and the sedan? i guess you like the sedan better
I called Sterling BWM today and spoke with a salesman on pricing for either a coupe or sedan. Personally I want a coupe but he told me 4 months until it arrives and that he would take off 500 bucks off total price hence the demand of the coupe. Sedan no problem, it would take 2 months to build with 1500 bucks off. Do you think I should be able to get more off or is this standard good or bad? James |

$500 off?
First, thanks, Sam!
Second, James, don't settle for $500, or even $1,500 off MSRP. I went through the Internet Sales Department at BMW of Fairfax, and the deal is simple: $500 over invoice price for ANY e90 or e92. If they order it, same deal. If it's already on the lot, same deal. Talk to the Internet sales manager, Amber Williams. She's great. I have found that most dealers will give you a better deal on the sedan, just as you have found. But Fairfax will sell you the coupe at $500 over invoice, regardless of demand, and that's irresistable. BMW of Arlington, which is close to me, wouldn't match that. MSRP on my car, with Steptronic, Premium Package and Cold Weather Package, was $44,120. Invoice is $40,650, so I paid $41,150 and saved about $3,000 off MSRP. And keep in mind that the 335 comes with Logic 7, adaptive xenon HIDs and some other stuff that's optional on the 328. All in all, the 335 Sedan made good economic sense to me, though I love the coupe, too. It's just that it was a couple of thousand more, and I didn't like the choices they had in stock. I think you'll find that any 335 is a dream machine. And I wouldn't sell the 328 short, either. In fact, the 328i Coupe is a hell of a deal at $500 over invoice. The big difference you'll notice is the low-end grunt of the 335. You'll also find that the 335i Coupe feels just slightly more nimble, but the sedan is damned athletic, too. Honestly, I don't think you can go wrong with any e90 or e92 Good luck! |

Thanks much!
I'm living without a digital camera at the moment, but I'm thinking I'll buy one soon. I tried to snap one with my camera phone. Looked as crappy as you'd imagine. The best I can do is point you to a shot of a 335i in graphite from BMW. http://www.bmwusa.com/Vehicles/3/335iSedan/Gallery.htm Graphite is shown in the second row. |

OK, OK
You guys are killing me! All right, I'm going to buy a digital camera.
Thanks for the nice welcome! And for those who care to know, it's as follows: 2007 335i sedan Sparkling Graphite Metallic Premium Package with black Dakota leather/burl walnut trim 6-Speed Steptronic with auto, sport and manual modes Cold Weather Package (includes 3-way heated seats, headlight washers, split fold-down rear seat with pass-through and ski bag, etc.) Stuff that comes on 335 standard but is optional on 328 sedan: Logic 7 sound system, adaptive xenon HIDs with auto-leveling, 17 X 8 light-alloy wheels with 225/45/17 run-flats (Bridgestone Turanzas came on mine, and so far, they're mighty impressive for an all-season tire. I've traditionally been a big fan of Pirelli PZero Neros and Yokohama Avids.) EPA rating with Steptronic: 20 mpg city, 29 highway. Hahahahhahaaha. Yeah. I have to admit, though, that if I keep my foot out of it (which is VERY hard to do), I can easily get 18 mpg around town. In hard driving, it's more like 14, which still isn't bad for a 300hp car that weighs 3,600 lbs. I haven't yet given it a fair shot on the open road to see how close it might come to that promised 29 mpg. |

ahhh .. the sports package ...
i wanted the wheels and seats that come with the sports package, but i don't have a place to store summer tires (assuming i'd switch between summer and winter tread) ... imo, bmw should offer the star spoke 162 wheels in a 4X18X8 option instead of the 18X8 front, 18X8.5 rears ... but there must be a reason ... handling? geometry? ... anyway, the 162 wheel design makes me drool. mine came with the star spoke 159, which ain't shabby, but it's also not the 162. and those sports seats ROCK .... adjustable thigh bolsters ... yeah, baby. that's one thing the 335i with premium lacks ... the standard seats are excellent and comfortable, and the leather is plush ... but i'd like more lateral support for hard cornering. BTW: the option that i didn't think i'd want but that i love: the steptronic.
believe it or not, this thing shifts FAST ... it's really much more like a skilled driver with a manual, especially with six tight ratios to choose from. i had figured i'd get manual and live with it in the stop-and-go dc traffic, but i'm actually glad i got the auto. (i know enthusiasts might bash me for this, but have you tried one? it's kind of amazing for an auto) |

Congrats and welcome. I also have a Grpahite 335 e90 and live in arlington. I'll keep my eye out for you. I have had the car since September 30 and love it more today than I did then.

You asked for it!
You dudes are costing me money. Ah ... I'd been wanting a nice digital camera anyway. So I bought a Nikon D50 Digital SLR. Oh, by the way, it's black polycarbonate, shoots 3fps ... wait, wait .. it's just a camera.
So I took some shots at sunset down at Gravelly Point Park near National Airport. Will try to attach them now. (Oh, and my poor car is dirty after some snow.) Also just figured, much to my dismay, that I have to reduce these to TINY shots and knock down the quality by about 80 percent to make them fit. Sigh. Anyway ... here we go. I hope. |
