clay bar

Just wondering how often can I clay and polish my car. I use klasse AIO and SG. Wondering because I get a lot of tree sap. Also I polish by hand.

I can't answer this quetsion, but I would also like to add to the question, does claying remove previous coats of AIO, SG, or Carnuba?

I just bought the clay and have never really "detailed" a car before. I know I just read that clay will remove layers so you will have to start from scratch.

I'm curious how that combiniation is working for you mrringodi. I just got the clay, mother's wash and got klasse AIO and SG. I thought after a good layer or two tree sap would just wash off with general upkeep(washing every week)

You can clay as often as you like, it isn't removing paint. The downsides are: everytime you clay there is the potential for marring, and you're removing your LSP. So yes, clay removes all sealants, waxes, etc.

Did you apply the AIO by hand or by PC?

Thanks... I saw in the detailing 101, DavidN seems to advise a PC for AIO. Its a brand new car so I really didn't want to spend on a PC if I can avoid the swirls by doing it right from day one. Bought the two buckets, two guards for the bottom so glove doesn't sit on the bottom with the dirt, two sheepskin mitts, mother's soap, mother's clay, AIO and SG. Tons of terry cloths and a mint shipment from pakshak with lots of MF.

I always hated washing cars in the past. I'm gonna go pick up a case of Corona tomorrow and get to work after the errands in the afternoon and work through Sat and Sunday. I shouldn't be too wrecked til after claying so no risk to the clearcoat. Can't wait to see what it looks like. I've read if I do this once and add another coat of SG over each of the next 3 weeks (3-4 coats total) I should be good with just a wash every week for 6 months. I hope that's true. I'm down in S. Fl. The sun is brutal and it rains ALOT, but no snow or salt and she's garage kept at night (outdoors during days)

It is, but I don't like to do it. I would suggest throwing it out when done as it can get particles caught in it, and you know what that means. To make it last longer I like to cut bars into smaller pieces and only use what I need. Usually a new car will only take about 150g piece of clay.

You should clay the paint whenever it feels less than perfectly smooth after washing. Be sure that the paint is very clean (no dirt on the surface) before you clay. If you don't do this, the clay can rub in those particles of dirt and scratch the paint.

Picus is absolutely right about not re-using clay. The contaminents will scratch the paint.
