How to make daytime running lights appear as two rings or "eyes"??
Yep, newb question. I just purchased an '07 335i sedan and wondering how I get my headlights to illuminate those two outer rings instead of the solid, inner light. I always see BMWs in my rear view mirror with their headlights as such and don't know how to get my running lights to appear like this. I currently have my headlight knob in the far left position which I believe is the "auto" setting.
Thanks!! |

The rings as DRLs are standard on the coupe...I think the sedan either requires a mod or it's a computer setting.

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure if it's the coupe's DRL's you're looking for, they weren't integrated into the e90 until LCI (09+)
The "halos" are still in your headlamps, but they don't function as "just halos". Your headlights either have to be on or your corners. This is the same as with halogen LCI e90's.

like it was said old E90s or prior 2009 have angel eyes just for estetics and don't work as DRLs. The only way is to put it in parking mode which will still have ugly DRL running with angel eyes during the day. The only way to make them as DRLs is to purchase a mod which is some sort of harness and requires playing with wires and such. Sometimes it gives errors too which is the reason I didn't go for it since I had same question on forums when I bought my E90. Unfortunately only 2009 and later models have angel eyes as DRLs and they are brighter too.

You could put the lights in park mode and then switch off the DRLs, which would give you just the halos in the front, albiet with the side markers as well.

this is what I do. I have an LCI E90 with halogens. I am not going to mess with them. someone said it looks ugly...I don't think so.

In canada option for turning off DRLs is not present in bmw cars because its illegal to have a car without DRLs. I don't think cops would ever stop you here for not having them but the stupid "LAW" was writen that way. As long as you live in US the option above is the safest.

To make your angel eyes turn on to be your DRL's you will need a mod.
Link below. http://www.jlevistreetwerks.com/3-Se...duct_info.html This mod is not required by coupe's however it must be done for 07 sedan such as yours. Once you have the Daeos installed, you must turn off the DRL's within the computer. The mod reroutes power to your angel eyes. |

Exactly, its do-able. But you will still have the sidemarkers on. If you have Idrive, there is an option to turn off Daytime Running Lights, then place your light switch to parking lights and wala! If you don't have idrive, I am not too familiar with the setting using the computer from the "stalk". But it is doable without having to do a mod.

Thank you for all of the response! I turned off the DRL through iDrive and turned the headlight knob to the 'parking light' option, and the rings are on! But the ugly sidemarkers are on.... but, you all did say that would happen. The other side effect I didnt think about was the interior lighting staying on while the parking light option is on. So, I went into the options and turned the interior lighting to the lowest brightness setting.
A tedious process... with those sidemarkers still on.... I may consider the mod but from the sound of it, I have to mess with the ECU and I'm not comfortable with that. Think those are the two options from what everybody was saying...? thanks again! |

I just installed the Daeos kit along with the mtec led upgrade and its one of the best things Ive done to the car so far. The Daeos kit come with great instructions and is fairly easy to install. Theres only one wire going into the ecu box and the hardest part is removing the stuff to get in there.
