tyres

hi guys, I seen loads of post on tyres at present just wanted to get an indication of whats the best RFT to get. Everyone keeps hating on bridgestone due to the large amount of inner wear. i got a new set when i got the car 4 weeks agos just wanted some advice on what a good replacement RFT would be Pirelli Pzero seem to get a good review. I know most probabily would put non-runflat tyres.

Also what do you all recommend pressure wise on the tyre:255/30 R19 rear 225/35/19 front

front: 2.6 bar
rear 2,8 bar

Thanks

Neetin,

You're running an E92 right? ed's old motor?

I too have an E92 335d M-Sport and I run 2.7Bar on the front and 3.2 on the back. These settings are basically square in the middle of the of the max-min loading values shown on the door sticker (which is a little cryptic to decipher).

I find these settings offer predictable handling and hopefully as their higher than the min-loading value will help to counter some of the inner edge wear issues.

I would say, experiment for yourself starting from the min-loading value (assuming it's usually just you in the car) and go from there. You will find a sweet spot where the car feels right as the tyre pressures affect the handling dynamics a fair bit IME.

Let me know how you get on...

I switched from Bridgestones to the Pirellis and found the ride to be more compliant (unless you hit a big pothole then it's just as bad). I'm still holding out for the new 3G Bridgestones that are supposed to be as comfortable as a regular tyre, but for the moment the Pirellis are the best choice (the P-Zeros, not the Eurforias).

Hi Neetin

I, for a long time, neglected to check pressures regularly on the Bridgestones and noticed inside wear on the rears - actually the dealer picked it up on the first service at 18k miles and tried to make me buy two new rears.

I questioned the dealer and they suggested that 0.2bar over recommended pressures would help to counter the wear caused by 'aggressive set-up'. I did this, and checked pressures regularly and got another 6k miles out of the rears with no further inside wear, but did get even wear across the tread.

Hope this helps!

Ed

Not sure about the pressures thing but yes, reset the monitoring thing via iDrive whenever you make changes to your pressures.

i always thought it was a combination of tyre pressures (as too low = wear) and needing a KDS alignment if you have excessive wear on one side.

Nope, not about needing a KDS. Your alignment ca be perfect, its the design of the car which has excessive negative camber.

Now this ''can be'' dialled out. I wouldnt personally though as the hhandling will be affected.

I'm running Nokian Z RFTs on my 320d in 225/45/17. Very compliant ride, much better than the Contis that came with car. I recently took a friend out in the car who's got a 320d MSport: he thought that they were non RFTs as they were so different to his Bridgestones. I'm also running +0.2 bar above min recommended pressures and check them every 10 days.

the handling will also be affected when the cords are showing through on the insides of the tyres!!!

Check out this stickied thread:

If you decide to go for RFT Bridgestones make sure you get the latest revision that have been updated to reduce inner edge wear.
