Unhappy Buyer's Remorse - I wish I had gotten a stick!

Hello all,

I've owned my car for about half a year now and as much as I love my E90 Black/Black /w Sports Package (No iDrive), I've got to say that it has one glaring problem:

It's not a stick shift. The monotony of driving an auto is really getting to me and I feel that I cannot be a true enthusiast unless I'm driving a stick version of the car I absolutely adore, but quite frankly that's not what's actually happening today. Prior to buying my car, I made a post about learning stick, and i was pretty sure i'd buy a stick but at the last minute I decided to buy a car that was selling for a good price and of course, being that like 90% of BMW's sold in the U.S. are auto, I ended up taking home an auto.

I thought I would be happy with it for a while but it has gotten to the point where i've gotta ask for help on this situation.

I still owe money on my car, I'm not fully confident in my stick skills and i'm just lost. Can anyone give me some advice in this predicament i'm in?

Either go to M/S mode and pretend you have a MT or sip coffee in one hand and steer with the other while giggling profusely. That's what i do and it works just fine.

Lol. Do you have paddles? You are going to get a stick, suck at driving it and hate life with a stick. Since you've never driven one you are a little late in 2010 to be a MT enthusiast. This is my first Auto and I had a 335i 6MT and a 328i 6MT. It gets old and I went through a clutch and a tranny by 40,000 miles (Defective gear box). That scared me off since I was out of warranty. The trannys in the E9xs are no where near as smooth as the E46's. I had a E46 M3 with a 6MT and damn... dayum was that nice, but my E90 was just alright. 1st and 2nd were so so, downshifting to 3rd was iffy sometimes.

Anyways whats going to happen is you trade your perfect car lose several thousand dollars by trading then getting a 6MT only to get scared/ tired/ frustrated/ whatever and want your old one back.

I say suck it up.

Sorry, but gl with your decision.

If you have never had a stick shift car before and you want to learn, my advise is you should buy a CHEAP USED stick shift car and drive it for half a year or so before investing money in a good one.

If you want to be a "true entusiast" take a high performance driving course (Skip Barber, Bondurant, etc.). You will not regret it.

I learned stick on my 335i about a year ago. I'll never go back to automatics, not even DCTs.

If it's that important to you, trade your car in for a stick. You'll lose money but it's up to you to determine if that's worth it.

You live in L.A.... if you sit in traffic as much as I bet you do, you'll want the AT back within 3 months of driving a MT. Keep what you got, and like everyone else said, play with the paddles when you see open road and/or buy a $1000 beater.

Yea, just keep your car, not worth losing money just to have a stick and feel like a "true enthusiast" As much as I love my 6mt in the suburbs, sit and go traffic is a different story. Since LA has the worst traffic in the country you'll miss not having to feather in 1st for an hour a day.

Relax and enjoy the car! Living in LA, you will be glad you have an auto instead of of a manual sooner than you think
