Seatbelt handler not working--again

I know it's a relatively small issue in the N54 world, but it still makes me wonder, if it can't be fixed in over 4 visits to the dealership, imagine paying out of pocket for these "repairs." BMW always tries to fix hardware with software.

What is wrong with it? The piece that opens up to grabe the belt broke on mine. Here in Germany it took 3 weeks for the dealer to get the part and I just had it fixed today.

Mine broke when I first got the car, they fixed it. About a month later it broke again, it's opening too late and missing the belt. Dealer wanted 800 to fix "the motor". Sucks but a seatbelt butler is not worth 800 to me.

BMW replaced mine under warranty, lately the belt drops just before my shoulder, however when taken to the service works great.

Just as I got the car I was thinking: "this is the first thing that will brake.."

Mine always gets stuck out, meaning the arm doesn't disappear into the B pillar.

I did read a SIB where the fix is with software, so I went with it. Well, 4 mos. later it doesn't work again. LOL $800 to fix something that's broken since day 1? When you really think about it, it's not fair, should be a recall.

I took mine in twice. The first time, the dealership said the actual seat belt was sticky so they cleaned the belt and lubed the arm. When I get the car back - still having the same issue as before. I took it in a second time and they replaced the damn thing. Damn dealership cheaps out the first time saying the belt was sticky when it was shitty hardware. lmao. $800 is steep for sure!

My modulator died for my seatbelt; so did my modulator for my heated steering wheel. Thank god all under warranty.

You are absolutely right, they like to "upgrade" software. Unfortunately, even when the upgrades fix the given problem, they often cause other difficulties to appear elsewhere later on, or just as often the technicians at the dealers skip feeding in some data required in the software reload, and the car then fails for the same reason and has to be brought in again. The maintenance is prepaid, included in the cost of the car, but since the simplest fix now takes several trips to the dealer, we still pay for the "repairs" by losing our time.

Never did like those things so I just removed fuse (#30 note your car may differ) and the seat belt arms don't extend and no warnings lights are given. I also didn't like the noise those arms make when they extend and then retract. It's just ridiculous that BMW puts those things on their cars.

Yeah, it's pretty annoying to wait for the arm to extend sometimes too. I always think to myself, though, that the "OMG WOW!" that passengers say when they first get in my car is all worth it

I honestly forgot that the car had these things. I pulled the fuse over three years ago

I had this exact problem, first time I brought it in they said software and all they did was snap it back together b/c it was coming unsnapped and it wouldn't go back in the B pillar. That day it did it again so I brought it back and they said the whole mechanism was bad so they ordered it and the day before I had to bring it back in I got "engine malfunction" 3 times and 2 times on the way to the dealership. So I better have it all fixed when I get it back hopefully tomorrow.
