Found the car I want, but don't like the trim... pics
I found this M5 I want to buy, it's black on black, but wooden trim,- which I think is terrible . Is there anyway I can change the trim on my own? I want to change the wooden trim for aluminum... Any idea what the cost is? Is it easy to do it yourself?

Sure, you can pull it off and put a new one on. People here do it all the time.

Oh good! When I test drove this M5, with dealer in passenger seat,- the dealer told me it is very expensive and hard to do (to change trim), I didn't believe him anyway... I know better that dealers are not keen when it comes to cars...
Thank you for such lightning fast response to my post... the main reason I posted in 3 series post is because it is a extremely high traffic area... wow.

Do people buy OEM ones or ? I'm weary of vinyl wrapping, but may look into painting it or having it dipped in CF if its not too too expensive.

If you like the CF, talk with the guys by us. Some of the guys have done the CF overlay. Takes time but not really that tough. Just need to get a DIY meet going

buy the car, go on GetBMWParts.com and order the trim you want. Take a screwdriver, pry off old trim, snap in new trim. Or buy me a plane ticket, and I'll do it for you.

For the 3's, all you do is pull it off. It is held in by clips. Can't imagine the M5 is any different

CF sound very good! For some reason, they don't make CF OEM for M5, but they do for M6, which is awesome!

Comparing two trims side by side,- and what kind of person would want a wood trim on a high performance sports car? (these are M6's... M5 is not available in CF trim, only wood and aluminum)

Wow.. is this a new 2009 model that never sold?
Fields BMW had a m5, black on black, with this ugly trim option on super discount... wonder if they couldnt sell it and sold it to another dealer?

I think the OP is talking about wetlaying carbon fiber...there's no such thing as dipping CF. I have worked with carbon fiber wet laying before and to be honest, I would not attempt it as a DIY. Especially for interior trim...too many curves. I laid the CF on a flat surface...made a beer pong table and the top is CF...still had problems. I messed up and because resin is so expensive I decided to use epoxy for bar tops....came out fine, for much cheaper.

you could do that too. I wrapped my friend's E46 trim a while ago and it wasn't that hard. I'm doing my brother's sometime soon when i get some time.
