DIY: Trunk M3 Emblem - silver to black
Looks the way it should have come from the factory now that i'm done.
Most have used a hairdryer or heat gun it seems. I had neither at my disposal here so i boiled some water, put it in my thermos and headed down to the car. 1. Gloss Black M3 badge from RennSpec. they shipped this little thing in a box 20 times its size with peanuts to boot. Great protection. A bit of overkill, but i'm not complaining. Thanks guys. 2. Painters tape to outline the borders so i can get it exactly where the original was seated. 3. Pour hot water on it, did a slow dribble on the emblem for about 30 seconds then got the floss and slid it under a corner and just pulled lightly. Worked like a charm! During pull: After M done: All cleaned up: 4. Pics of it installed. Probably the quickest and easiest mod i have done to date. Everything went exactly as planned, i was shocked! The "Edition" M's should come from the factory with this IMO. It's not a very noticeable mod, more for me than anyone else. Enjoy. |

How well does it match the Edition trim -- the tailpipes, gills and grills? I'm hoping to get a set of the trim (keeping fingers crossed as I heard BMW is stopping the Euro parts from coming overseas to the US) and wondering if the black emblem will help set it off. Thanks for the info and DIY. I always figured it wouldn't be too hard but never saw any pics or DIY of this.
Cheers.
