What advantage buying from dealer?
Hello!! I sold my 325 so just crashing. I posted this on the X5 boards also (that is what I am considering/2007)....but like to hear as much in put I can about this topic:
What advantage do I get going through a BMW dealer vs. "random?"....100K warranty?, new tires?.....the dealers run easy $4,000 - $6000 more. Why would I pay that?.....We r looking at one this weekend (more for fun)...at a Ford dealership. The free Carfax said one owner, no accidents, and serviced. Good price. $34,000---non-sport though. Miles r 49K so out of warranty. Is that the problem not going through BMW? Warranty?....The CPO ones r sooo much more $... THANKS!

IMO the CPO is much more essential for a turbocharged N54 engine (335) as opposed to the naturally-aspirated N52 engine (325/328/330).

^^ I agree on that, but as a 325xi owner who has had several small but would of been a fortune issues, a CPO is the only way to go on a 2006 or newer model.
IMO

Thanks for that info...I am in the market for a 3.0L X5 2007. Sport. Automatic. SHOULD be under the origional 4/50,000K miles for a bit. Depending on the mileage.
Yes, the warranty would be nice....just not sure if my pockets can reach as deep as the elevated price at the dealer AND an extended warranty if I need to pay for that out of pocket (not sure if CPO comes with the warranty--I think it does). My 2006 325 automatic sport is almsot over with the origional warranty and I have had no issues with it (other than my cupholder needed to be replaced). I suppose I am just hoping for the same luck if I buy used --as the guy who bought mine will have (mint condition). And I also suppose the "problems" (if they would arise) would be more as the "car gets older"...and I am buying an "older" X5 (2007). Humm....something to think about. I may need to save $4,000 more to get the car from a BMW dealer....just not sure what to do.....and it would also need to be CPO from a dealer...not just from the BMW dealer I am sure. Does a BMW dealer ever toss in the "warranty" to 100K miles just to "seal a deal" if it is not CPO??? Or do you need to purchase it? * Question.....if I see an X5 I like and the mileage is UNDER 50,000 (2007) -and therefore is still covered by the origional 4/50,000 am I able to go to BMW and purchase an extended warranty if NOT bought at a BMW dealer? Any clue what that runs? I am thinking $2,000?

This was helpful--bummer X5 is not on the "extended maintenance plan"--that could have sold me. We dont need to finance. Cash.

I would personally go with CPO. Honestly I didn't find the price differences THAT large especially between dealers. If I looked into private sellers then the prices may be a bit lower, but that brings up a whole bunch of other issues.

If you won't be able to sleep without a warranty, then get CPO. Otherwise, save the extra cash and hope nothing goes wrong.

Dreamingat-
Difference is like at the Ford dealership vs. BMW dealership. BMW to BMW are close but still have a range. Lots to think over...

NORMALLY I would not sweat it in a way--and fork out the $40 K needed to "do this totally right"--- but daycare is running us $1700 a month (two kids)...that is my play money!! UGG!!! Pay now or maybe pay later. Somthing to think over.

The only way I would buy a none CPO BMW is if it's cheap enough that I don't mind losing the $ like a project car or something like that or if it's low enough miles and year that it still has MOST of the factory warranty left.
Also keep in mind if you are financing the car that extra warranty cost will go into your payments as oppose to having to shell out a few grand if your transmission goes out or something like that. |

I bought a 330i recently from a dealer and had the same dilema should I buy from a private dealer or bmw. Price difference was about 2k between the two for same type of cars. The reason I went with dealer is car was CPOed for another 2 years and bmw can be pricey to repair, also I got 1.9 financing which is a steal compare to financing it through my bank and lastly when the car is certified it usually is inspected fully and you get stuff like new brake job and such. Finally I just trust buying from a dealer than some random guy who has all kinds of cars on his lot that were bought out from auctions in a lot of cases.

My dealer also gives me BMW loaner. I haven't checked the recent BMW offers, but you may consider financing and putting the cash away in a CD, or depending on your risk level, another type of investment that yields more than the finance rate. I financed at 0.9% and put the money towards other things.
