Traded in E93 for E90; HPFP to be replaced..

Done with the E93...

This past Tuesday (June 1) I traded in my 2007 Red E93 (Hence now I need to change my screen name). I owned it all of ~ 2 months. It was in the shop 4 times for 4 to 5 different seperate items, mostly relating to the retractable top and windows. It needed to go in a 5th time, when I said ENOUGH! I complained to BMW Consumer Relations and the local dealership. In the end, the dealership sales manager offered me close to what I paid for it, minus a few bucks for the several thousand miles that I was able to rack up only having the car for 2 months.

Being in a loaner car too many times made up my mind. Since the retractable roof has 34+ sensors in it, I just simply decided that the long term reliability would not be acceptable to me. Several sensors already had to be replaced. Thus, I traded it in for a CPO 2007 E90 with 44k miles on it.

On to the E90....

Before I sat in the E90 or was even physiacally close to it to hear the starter crank up, the salesman started it and pulled it forward for me to drive, so I did not notice if there was a long crank. It is an extremely clean E90. Silver color with the 162 style wheels. Previous owner leased it from the same dealership and returned it the same dealership. All warrantied items were done at the same dealership.

I drove home Tuesday night around 6pm. Around 8pm, I needed to head back out and proceeded to start the car. I noticed a long 4 to 5 second crank time. I immediately thought of the HPFP issues. Thus, the next morning I drove straight to the service department and they provided me with a loaner. They did the standard tests and proceeded to do a recommended low pressure sensor reset. The shop service manager (who lives near me by the way) called me to ask if he could keep the car over night so that they could provide a cold start the next morning. The next day (yesterday) he called me back and said even with reseting the sensor, he did not feel comfortable with the crank again. He told me that he would do whatever he needed to do to get BMW NA to approve installation of the newer HPFP model. Thus, he was given the green light to replace the HPFP with the new 933 model. Today, he is having it installed and I should be able to get the car back by lunch time. I'll update everyone.

While I was at the dealership, I asked my SA to provide me with the history of work that had been done on the E90. Other than standard oil changes and a few brake repairs, there were only two other noticable warrantied items done to the car. Those were to replace two HPFP. The original HPFP was replaced at 24k miles, then again on 1/2010 at 36k miles with one of the same earlier model HPFP. Thus, with it now being replaced for a 3rd time with at 44k miles, I am hopeful that the new HPFP will be long lasting. The previous generation HPFP for the e54 engines were produced in France and production has now moved to Germany.

It will be great to FINALLY drive the car that I've only seen through the window....

I personally didn't notice a loss in power when the long crank began to happen. Of course, I only owned the car for a night.

I just got 13-51-7-613-933 yesterday as well, along with software update 2.37.2 (which I'm sure you also got.) I did not know that 933 was a new model produced in Germany instead of France - what is the source you have for this? I'd like to get confirmation that it is a different unit than what I had, and not some fabricated SA fairy tale.

You my friend, have a ton of patience.

I would have said bye bye BMW if that happened to me. When is it OK for a car to be driven off the lot with an issue?!!?

It's amazing how some cars have tons of issues while others have none. My hardtop has never given me a single problem, and it's an early 2007 build.

Sorry to hear about you problems. I hope the E90 works out for you.

Andrew

wow look at that zephyrhills is on here too? Reminds me of the good ole saddlebrook says. BTW Stay away from the swap shop a block over. It's quite the show over there.

Being away from your car only makes you enjoy driving it when u get it back.

Thanks.

Patience is a gift from the Lord. Although, I do not always act on it.

Hey Jersey, I am actually in Wesley Chapel, but close enough. Never knew about a swap shop. BTW: I am from Jersey and moved here in '04.

As for the E90, enjoying it very much..........................for now.

Source was other guys on here, and the BMW Service Manager. As others educated me recently here, and in other threads, 933 is re-manufactured and replaces the 943.
