Trying to decide between the 328 and 335

Hey guys; so I've been an Infiniti fan boy pretty much the past 5-6 years; I have an 08 G37S coupe now which is my 4th Infiniti G. I was going to make the step up to the 335 before I originally bought this car, but at the last second changed my mind..don't ask.

Anyway, now I'm looking to get rid of my car and get into a 2011 E92. I've priced out the 335 and 328's exactly how I want(premium, m sport, nav, comfort access, ipod, heated seats). But I'm trying to decide between the two cars. My current car I modded A LOT; but don't want to do that anymore to my next car, so even if I got the 335 I wouldn't plan on chipping it or anything.

I also am coming from obviously a lot more of a powerful car if I went to the 328 from this, and I just test drove a 328xi today. It felt good, I still thought it had a decent amount of power but a slight delay in throttle response that I'm used to..maybe because it was an xi?

My dilemma is basically, I know I wouldn't be DISAPPOINTED and HATE the power that the 328 would give me, but is it worth it to be paying about $80 more a month for 36 months for the 335? It's a decision I'm really torn between and would love for some of you guys to chime in for me. I mean I also live in NYC, so I'm not really going to NEED all that power of the 335, nor do I even really need all the power my current car has now..I guess it's just nice to have when you do want to you use it.

Any input is appreciated and I'm sure there have been threads on this before..but I'd love to hear what everyone has to say thanks.

N54 or bust.

You will grow tired of the 328, plus it has no real performance mods.

i recently just traded in my 2009 328i for a 07 335i, and i'm loving it. wish i would have got the 335 in the first place. if the difference is only $80 a month then i wouldnt even hesitate if i were you. you get so much more out of the car, it doesnt need any mods to enjoy. if you're worried about mpg though, the 328 is the one

Its sounds as if your going to lease? if so go with the 335 for the fun factor.

Yeah sorry if I forgot to mention the leasing factor lol...

also because of the AWD and the Automatic credit going on now..

I wanted to get the car in stick, but the payment on the MT 335i was $20 more than the AT 335i, but the AT 335i is the same price as the MT 335xi..go figure.

Torque is where it's at with the 335...that's what you'll be using in city driving...335 it is.

1000% get a 335. You'll be disapointed going from a G37 to a 328. And you'll love the torque of the 335. Similar hpo to your G37, but WAY MORE torque and peak torque is way down at 1700 rpm. No need to anticipate and wind it up, just put your right foot down and go. Truely intoxicating.

Do yourself a favour - drive both, back to back. Then drive your G37 over the same route. That should answer your question.

Great advice.

If you love torque, you are going to lease and you don't mind dealing with the HPFP issue, get the 335i. If you plan on keeping the car past 100K miles, the 328i with 6MT is a good choice. I love mine.

Yeah that would be the IDEAL situation; unfortunately the dealer didn't have any 335's for me to drive; but I'm having my mom's coworker come by in a few days so I can drive a 328xi again.

I have a 328 coupe with manual. Just drove an automatice 328 sedan as a loaner from BMW today. The automatic does have a very noticeable delay when pressing the throttle. The manual tranny on this engine does not have any delay and always has a shot of power if in the correct gear.

Power is output in th 328 is very linear with increasing revs and the engine sounds great. However, if you're driving style uses every hp and lb-foot on a regular basis you'll be disappointed.

Dont kid yourself
328 does not have better MPG, i can tell you that for sure
It's just slower and less fun

P.S. Had a loner for a few days, while mine was for scheduled maintenance
Same trip, same road, same speed = worse real-world MPG on 328i

I have a 335 xdrive sedan AT as a loaner right now. It's so much more fun but right now the MT, warranty, and cost are higher priorities.

335 without a doubt. And get the stick if you want one. Don't sacrifice fun for a few bucks. 328 is great but the fun factor on the 335 is worth it

Whichever car you get you'll be fine with because you won't know the difference. The 328i will be the 328i and the 335i will be the 335i. It's only if you have both at once that you'll realize the difference.

Once you get either one, it'll be fine because it's only relative to what you compare it to. The 328i is only slower when you compare it to something faster (like a 335i.) The 335i is only slower when you compare it to something faster (like a 997TT.)

Regret only happens when you start comparing what you think you should have bought. And want only happens when you think there's something better.

Do you get what I'm saying(?)

On the other hand, it's not just $80 a month, it's $2880 after the 36 months. Put the $80 away each month and you'd have a nice little vacation at the end of your lease.
