a couple performance questions

i'm trying to add a little more power to my 328i. my plans definitely include AFE intake, k&n drop in filter, modified clutch valve, BMS powerbox.

but right now i am looking to buy the k&n drop in filter and the modified clutch valve and i have a some questions.

will the k&n drop in filter add any hp at all? and is the clutch valve worth it?

also, what are some other ways to squeeze out power from my n52?

you cant get a aFe intake and a K&N drop in filter haha.
aFe intake replaces the stock bmw intake.... where the K&N would go.

Buy the BMS powerbox...

I'd say it might add 1 or 2, you will notice a better sound from the engine though.

dont waist your time with the drop in filter. If your gonna get an intake get a afe or injen, or a ebay one with a k&n air filter (What i did because its a exact replica of the injen) But if your do get a cold air intake make sure it comes with a heat shield. You will first notice the sound and my car definatly has more pull.

Yep, i would say save the money on the k&n though, you wont be able to tell
Definantly get BMS powerbox before either unless your going for just sound, then just get in aFe

heat shield is just restrictive, it helps in no way. Its a myth for sure.

Drop ins will not substantially change performance. The aFe replacement filters are better flowing over factory but the difference cannot be felt behind the wheel. The advantage to these filters is that they are lifetime so you don't have to replace them down the line.

If your factory one is due for replacement and you are out of the maintenance period, then I recommend going aFe as one or two cleanings will end up paying for itself.

With that said, if you are going the intake route down the line, hold off on the filter for now.

eBay intake, slight bump in HP and better sound for all of $80. Guarantee you will not be able to tell the difference between that an a Gruppe M CF intake that costs $1000.

And of course PBX it.

And NOS stickers!

How about a IM swap and dyno tune.

If you want performance upgrades, get these in this order:

1. Powerbox

2. Clutch Valve... or i hear you can just remove that.

that is all.

If you want sound, get these:

1. Intake, I recommend the injen but thats just me

2. Aftermarket exhaust, I would recommend an electric cutout

After that save for visual mods.

If you do he drop in filter, remove the carbon filter in the OEM box also, that will give you the most bang for your buck, wont change sound though.

I have the aFe, and love it. sounds great and has good flow - the filter is massive on this thing. It also does work better then the stock system once the car adapts, pair up some scoops with it and your golden.

Get the PBX. its a great mod for a quick boost.

CDV + Short Shift Kit.

If you really want to step it up, go for Headers, a Dyno tune, aFe Intake, scoops, secondary cat delete, and resonator delete (keep the muffler your going to need some back pressure) but i dont recommend this path if your still under warranty.

If you want more power, do what I'm doing and if your not sure talk to Craven.

BMS Powerbox
Intake- Your chose (i'm going BMW Performance)
Exhaust ( I like BMW Performance Sound)
Suspension ( Dinan or BMW Performance)
Rims & Tires

And In the middle of all these mods im going to see if the 330i throttle body will fit the 328i and try and Frankinstein the 330i Dinan Throttle body to fit my car. With Craven's help. If it did that would be F*ckin Anwesome.

I think all the n52 throttle bodies have the same part number. JFisher, if you're ever up in the SF bay area, you can try my dinan suspension.

How stiff is it and how does it handle. I'm guessing the handle is great. But i'm also wondering how stiff if you have to drive a long time. It looks like a good package, i just don't know anyone that has it.

It handles great and rides a little siffer than stock ZSP. You need wider wheels in the front as Dinan tuned the package with 265/275 front/rear tiers. I have 245/255 and it works great on the track. The camber plates will raise the front ridehight a bit but you can get stage II and add the M3 front control arms and tie rods wich do the same as camber plates. You should also get their rear upper shock mounts too. The stocks get chewed up quickly.
