Small Emissions leak code?!?!
Well, a few weeks ago, i had a light come on that i interpreted as the gas cap. I tightened the cap and it eventually went away.
well a few days later, I got a ses light. I went to auto-zone and it said it was a "very small emissions leak" I don't remember the exact code or codes. He cleared the codes and all was fine for a couple more days. Tonight, the ses light is back on... What could be the problem? |

I hope your under warranty. This dealer quoted me $1700 to replace hose #10 in the realoem.com diagram I provide in that link. $500+ just to diagonis it. Read the thread there's more to it. I don't expect to pay anything. They're trying to charge me 5+ hours for a smoke test. |

Btw, I have the most "coverage" in terms of extended warranty.

That's the pump used to pressurize the EVAP system to check for leaks. I'm trying to run tests on mine as I speak to see if my patch job is working...I did not have the dealer replace the vent hose as $1700 is way too expensive for a unimportant part. I spent $6 at home depot to patch my hose.

The main part of the EVAP system and the vent hoses and what not are located by the fuel tank. Of course the EVAP system goes up to the engine bay but I think only hoses go up there to vent pressure from expanding gas into the intake manifold. Reason being is that the pressure (fumes really) can be used like fuel.
The DMTL pump is, from what I can tell, easy to replace. If you can jack up your car and get access underneath, at most you need to remove one panel which is about 6 or 7 screws and drop the carbon filter. I didn't even have to remove anything from my car when I patched the hose. Just jacked it up, wrapped the hose with rubber, and clamped it in place. I beleive that pump is right in front of the carbon filter...not sure. |

yeah, I looked in your pics and the real oem diagram. It looks pretty straightforward. I backed the car onto some ramps today to take a look and i see that its just one panel as you said. no big deal. But still 120 dollars i could put towards something better.

I got in an accident earlier this year and I had some welding done in that area. It is the shops fault no doubt but I am in NJ/NY for the summer and the shop is in Philly. I've called them about it. Still need to talk to them some more on Monday about it.

Yes. I had the mount on the rear axle carrier rewelded and reinforced with a mig welder. That mount is directly under the hose....you can probably see it in my pictures. That rusted bolt you see is holding the rear toe link in place, in that mount that was reinforced.
Honestly, I should go after the shop and have them repair it. But for something I can repair, half ass'd but a working repair job, I'm not going to go after them for the following reasons: The shop is in Philly, I'm in NJ/NY for the summer and intern at Pepsi during the week so I cannot take time off. I need to pass NJ state inspection so I need this fixed asap. My fix seems fine for the time being. To be honest, to go after them for this, and I know it's totally reasonable for me to, would just cause too much of a headache in the long run. The shop is a very honest, small, indy shop that is located directly behind my apt. in Philly. Like I honestly walk a block to it. If I make them repair it, that relationship may be lost. And look at it this way, they owe me. I already spoke with them about this and they owed up to it. If I ever need work done in the future, I'm guaranteed discounts. Accidents happen. The shop was unaware of the situation at the time they welded it. What are you going to do? I'd rather have them "owe" me for something like this. Get what I mean? Others will disagree, I understand. But in my situation, this is best solution. However, if my methods fail, I will be asking them to repair it. No doubt. But I have to wait until the next school year to take it back to them. |
