Look what I found in my front shock dust cover

I found this in the front shock dust cover today:

I have only had the car for 3 weeks so this was the first time I took the front wheels off. I found out the left shock dust cover is torn. I found this plastic thing inside the dust cover I could not tell if this was part of the shock or not. I checked the other side and there is nothing like this at all on the shock.

So just to be clear, this is not part of the shock right? Possibly just road debris that was kicked up and ripped the dust cover and lodged in there?

Let me know what you think.

And I guess I need to get the dust cover replaced right? I am still under warranty so I was not planning on fixing it until I need to take the car back into the shop for maintenance unless you guys think I shoulf fix it right away?

That should NOT be there in the first place. The dealership should have removed it during their PDI process.

What is the PDI, the pre delivery inspection (just a guess). So you agree this is not any part from my car but road debris?

My car was a CPO car so you would think they would see it and replace the dust cover.

Yes, pre delivery inspection.
That is a shipping spacer that wasn't removed.

CPO could easily miss it under the boot.
BMW should be replacing the boot.

Yeah, that's technically part of your car (not road debris).
It's a shipping block put in during transport/delivery from the factory. Removing them is one of the first things that should be done when it arrives at the dealer.
