Macht Schnell or aFe Air Scoops

Was wondering if anyone has installed either the Macht Schnell or aFe Air Scoops on a Pre-LCI E90?

Have had air scoops installed before, but neither of these. I don't think it will matter on either of those air scoops which you decide to install. Unless you have a CAI already, air scoops really won't make any difference in performance.

scoops are scoops. it really doesnt matter. just look at price and go form there. just dont get ones with holes in them.

I have MFD ones and they work great and were pretty cheap. also, check the for sale section, saw a guy with some for sale the other day...

+1 I have MFD too and like them. If nothing else, the red behind a black grill looks mean.

I have the $40 on my car and they do the same thing as the AFE ones. They are pretty cool, you get alittle more air and in the morning and when its cold you feel alittle difference. I would never spend more then $100 on the scoops.

And mine screws in, and i don't see where the AFE would do that. The way they made the $40 are better in my option then the AFE. Takes like 2 min to install and your done.

The aFe filters are designed to be installed without any modification to your car so there are no screws for installation.

Here is the install guide to show you:

The Macht Schnell Air Scoops are made with durable plastic construction for smoother airflow and no chance of rusting.

David brings up a very good point.

Being crafted out of durable Urethane Plastic, the Macht Schnell pieces are nearly indestructible and will not bend or rust. Rotocasting allows smooth transitions to the upper snorkel rather than sharp sheetmetal bends like most other brands.

So you are presented with a better scoop for less cost than the aFe versions.

The Cybas use an existing screw and just ties in to the end of the threaded bolt. No modification needed for them

a scoop is a scoop.

if your expecting a noticeable gain from them, it wont happen. they all redirect air and aid in cooler intake temps, just depends how much you want to pay for whatever companies name it stamped on them.

Just got around to seeing this thread and it looks like there are many different opinions on which scoop is going to be "best". In all honesty, they all essentially serve the same function; to divert more cold air directly to the CAI. Sure, you can pay for a $40 scoop made out of sheet metal that will require you to drill either bumper or whatever other part to fit but why go through that hassle? Don't we all ultimately, want the best product, with perfect fitment, yet still be able to get a great deal?

In my honest opinion, I do believe that the AFE Intake Scoop is the way to go. They're engineered to fit your vehicle without any modifications or screws for installs and it's priced competitively. Best of all they're all made here in the United States! They allow for improved performance by keeping the air around your intake system cooler. Apart from improvements in power the air being channeled into your engine bay will allow your engine to run cooler. With the aFe Intake Scoop Value Package you'll also receive FREE with your scoops; an aFe Power baseball cap, aFe Power license plate frame, and aFe Power keychain. I'll shoot you over a PM with more details!

That is BS, yeah i'm going to spend $129 so i can get a hat to advertise for them. It took me longer to get the front grills off then to install the $40 scoops. The $40 scoops come with holes to screw into the factory screws. It took me 5 min to screw both scoops in and be done with it.

The $120 must be in reference to the aFe versions. All other scoops (including aFe) on the market are bent with a sheetmetal brake, which is the cheapest route.

Plastic molds are much more expensive when factoring in mold costs, but eliminate any bends and look completely OEM even with the outside textured finish.

Man those are some pricey retrofitted cat-poop scoopers.

$39.99 for Cyba's scoop that using OEM mount holes -- can't go wrong with that.

I'm not sure where you guys are all seeing this product for $129 as the AFE Scoop package is currently $99 on our site. It was actually on sale last week for $89 for fourth of July as well. I'm glad to hear that you're happy with the product you purchased. Sure, the install may not be hard on the $40 scoops, but some would prefer not have to drill any holes into their bumpers etc to get it to fit properly. If you want to compare them side by side to it's competitors you'll definitely notice the different in not only the metal, but also in the welds. I'll include some more details pics below for reference.

It's so funny the $40 ones are one piece. ^^^ those look like they are going to fall apart. I'm sorry ska325xi you hit with the value meal -

Craven - If you can't get a pic, it will only take me two min to get one off my car and I can take a picture and post it tomorrow.
