1/4 mile times suffer after Muffler Delete (n55)

Seems like the car just didn't want to spool up as quickly. My best time tonight was a 13.9x @ 98/99 mph ( i left the time slip in the car but I remember I never trapped over 100.

Any thoughts as to why this is happening? I thought the more airflow the better?

the only thing i think might be the problem would be loss of traction. on the other hand
it could be an array of things. did you do a burnout before and not this time out?what was the temp and DA. Just go out one more time see what happens to confirm.

pretty much same everything. I guess I'll keep it for a bit. But I figured even if I had poor traction my trap speeds would still be around the same...

What was the weather like on your runs vs your previous? In fact, post the density altitude rating of each (go to www.dragtimes.com and use their DA calc).

Better 60' times would normally lower the trap speed a bit. If the times are better but traps are lower, that's normal, if both are lower I would guess the car is just hotter.

X...

Keep in mind that your n55 is a MAF car. MAF cars are extremly anal to breathing mods.

Uhh really? Maybe I'm missin something but common sense would tell me that a better (Lower) 60' Time would make a higher (better) trap speed...

can you explain the logic behind that?

Bogging lower traps, if you get a better 60 but hook, it will actually increase trap. Some people are under the impression that putting on slicks and nailing a good 60 lowers your trap, when infact it doesnt. What the people fail to account for is overall tire diameter that completly changes the gearing.

Example, some guys run 26inch street tires and put on a 28in slick, hook hard, and wonder why their trap went down.

If your runs are still within 2mph of each other on different nights, its hard to quantify if your performance really suffered. It is probable that it didn't increase your performance. Ambient temps are critical. You might suffer a mph drop for every 10 degrees increase in ambient temps. How long did the car cool off between runs, (ie coolant temp, IAT, etc) can also make a mph difference easily.

there are tons of ars that run mafs and are tuned just fine. My old tundra had a maf on it. But on a side note I don't see what that would have to do with the exhaust since the af is on the intake...

I'll have to check my slips. Last week is seemed like any 60 foot times under 2.1 would yield me a 13.8 pass at 100/101mph while last night I nailed a 2.03 60' time and yet I nailed a 13.9x at 97/98. Seems like I'm losing some top speed here.

This is a stock tune, I really dislike maf cars. Your tundra ran fine tuned. Some cars are more picky then others. Put on a downpipe on a n55 and watch the tune change. Maf cars are very "twitchy" to breathing mod, which means more than just the intake. Take an evox for example.

Im not saying his muffler delete is hurting the car, I am simply saying it could be the reason, outside of weather, for the lower 1/4 mile times.

Well the muffler is back on. Same results. Now I'm wondering if I would have ran faster or slower without it.

On a side note I did notice the car running really hot. Never in the 9k miles that I've put on the car had I seen the temp gauge read 250....

Would you recommend a Muffler Delete? On a E92? with a N55? I really want to do it when the car arrives. And one more question should I wait until the break in then muffler delete or I can do it before?

the N55 will no doubt benefit greatly with a better flowing downpipe.. don't expect a muffler delete to do much other than shed some weight

Thought maybe it was the reason I was losing 1/4 time. But seems like I'm still running the same thing with them on...

+1

Mufflers dont really give you the HP that you'd notice, especially when your car is stock.

Cant wait for the BMS tune to come out.

I got one question should I break the car in before I do the muffler delete or it's ok to do it right away.

Just do it, Not sure about the e92 but the e90 has no cats or res in the pipes. So it should be louder than the n54 with straight pipes...
