320d Owners... some questions

Hello All!

I'm new to the forum and to BMWs in general. The new 3 Series was just launched three weeks ago in the Philippines (where I live right now) and I may pursue a special order of the E90 320d as BMW Phil seems interested to bring it at a far later date. I have a few questions on the current E90 320d and the predecessor of this model, the E46 320d.

Have you E46/E90 320d owners have more problems than the 320i? Are BMW diesels more maintenance intensive than the petrol version? Our diesel quality here is equivalent to Euro I and I was wondering if this would pose a problem.

I hope you kind folks can help me. Thanks for the replies!

BMW 320D e46

I've had the car for 2 years from new and its performance has been impecable until its first oil service.

probably no connection but the acceleration once warm is suspect. Torque is down too. I checked and the engine will not rev above 4500 rpm (in second) and I will check this with my wife's identical touring version this weekend!

It's going into the dealer this week for a check-up.

Anyone with similar problems??

Phil

Owned an E46 320cd Sport Coupe in the UK from new for close to three years. At time of trade in she had done about 28,000miles.

Very good car, very economical, fast and nimble, cheap to run and insure. In fact out of the three years, the car had only been in for one oil change and was due a brake fluid change when I part exchanged, so in terms of service/maintenance - I saw the garage twice in three years

Not much bad about the car/engine. But do remember that the engine in the "old" E46 is the 150bhp variety, the E90 has the 163bhp, same engine just tuned
It is a bit noisy - but inside the car you are pretty insulated.

Not sure of the quality of diesel you have, but here to give you some idea, using "ordinary" diesel you could easily achieve 45mpg, resulting in a 500 mile touring range on a tank.

Good luck with your choice of car
