Cargo Space?

I saw in the thread with "official info" it said 19 cu ft and 59 cu ft. or something like that, but that can't be right because its bigger than the old X3 and the old one had 71 cu ft with the seats down!

I am curious if anyone knows what the actual numbers will be, currently I have a LR2 that has 26.7 with seats up and 58.9 with seats down

What is interesting to me is that the X3 looks smaller than my current car but with the seats down it has 20% more space??? Its almost impossible to find a number for the space with seats up, even BMW.com doesn't show that.

Motor Trend says the new 2011 X3 is 19.5 cu ft with seats up and 59 with seats down which is probably where the information on this thread came from, but how could the space decrease 20% with the NEWER LARGER X3? I also find it hard to believe it would only be 19 cu ft with the seats up but 71 with the seats down, that would be a ton of back seat space...

For me with 2 toddlers I need the space behind the seats to be larger, and if its not at least 25 cu ft this car is not an option which sucks because I really was hoping the cargo space would be the same as my LR2 and larger than all the mini SUVs like the Q5 and Mercedes. I like my LR2 but its slow I would like a bit nicer of an interior, the i35 X3 will be about 2.5 seconds quicker to 60mph plus probably offer better average mpg than my LR2 which is getting 19.5, hard to pass on a fuel and speed increase!

It may have more storage under the rear floor than before, which cuts into the cargo space. I've noticed this trend among SUVs.

Yeah, if 59 cu ft is correct it would put it in a range similar to the Q5 and GL350, but notably smaller than some comparably priced Japanese SUVs (MDX, RX350, etc). Probably won't matter to many people, but for those who need to haul a lot of stuff more than occasionally, it could be a factor.

Official BMW numbers from www.bmw.de

E83 X3: 480 liters behind seat and 1,560 liters with seat down
F25 X3: 550 liters behind seat and 1,600 liters with seat down

so around 15% more volume than existing vehicle behind seat.

But I'm not sure that comparing these specs is all that useful; you need to see it in real life and visualize your typical requirements in the vehicle.
