Exclamation Car is overheating. Need some Help!

06 325i
84000 miles

Ok so I got the yellow and then the red overheat icon on the dash.

1. No leaks
2. Fan works
3. Coolent full
4. Top radiator hose is hot
5. Heater blows cold air, until the car overheats..then hot as hell lol.

I am thinking it might be the water pump as other people have had failures, But the top radiator hose is hot, so I think that means there is circulation?

Anybody have any opinions? Thanks

Water pump failure. Happened on mine and it's a common problem with 325s. The hose might be hot just from the heat working it's way to that part of the system.

Sounds like a water pump to me as well. While you are down there replace the thermostat as well.

how common are these pump failures? I have 54k and still have the original with no problems-does anyone replace these preventatively like a battery so they dont just completly die on you?

If you have a newer build date you might have the revised pump. Check with your dealership to see when the new pumps were fitted from the factory. Real oem shows the newest pump came out in 6/06.
