BMW Performance Intake - Using back current air filter element

Hi guys, I wanted to installed the Performace Intake from BMW over the weekend and I think I forgot to purchase the "Sports Filter" element as indicated on the installation instruction sheets.

Does anyone of you guys had used back your old air filter element without replacing the so called "Sports Filter"? Does it cause any damage for the engine...etc. if I were to use back my current air filter?

Thanks for your help.
