My BMW Performance Exhaust is quieter than stock
Recently purchased and installed a BMW Performance exhaust at a local dealership. It didn't come with mid-pipes but just the muffler alone. The parts guy advised that European models don't require mid-pipes...so resonator is intact.
Having installed the sound is no where close to the youtube clips I've been listening. Not throaty nothing and in fact it's quieter than stock. This is really frustrating and I felt cheated. can someone please advise if getting the mid-pipe will enhance the sound? Thanks alot. |

unless your midpipes already have the resonator deleted then no it will not make a difference. The bmw perf midpipes come with the resonated deleted already which makes a big difference in sound.

I would laugh my ass off if we all found out that the performance muffler is just a stock muffler with chrome tips welded on...and the only thing they did was the mid pipe with res delete...and charged 1 k for it...

OP: i'm surprised it's just the muffler. didn't know you could buy it like that. usually it includes new mid-pipes which do not have resonators.

on old skool bmw's, yes. on the e34 i know this is the case. from my understanding dinan used to take oem mufflers and redo the internals. but starting with the e36 and on, they're fully built new units with no oem parts. when i took a tour of dinan's headquarters about 5 years ago, they had an area where they made the exhausts.

I will chime in here. I have the PE and it sounds great. You do need to replace the mid-pipe as the OEM one has the resonator on it. By replacing it you basically remove one of the resonators. I have never heard of the PE only being the muffler unless it was sold to you used. The exhaust setup should have arrived in two boxes.
I hope you get this resolved. Here was my sound clip just 2 days after getting my installed. Sounds even better today. Good luck OP, keep us posted. Quote:

What i want to know is the PE muffler is the same shape, size, and indentations as the stock one...what on the inside is different? I know the PE comes with the res delete mid pipe...which is a 30$ bent piece of tubing...im not trying to knock the PE exhaust system at all, its just that the OP's post brings up something very interesting...that he has the PE muffler and it didnt get louder. makes me almost believe that the new mid pipe is what makes it.

The PE looks similar to the size and shape of the OEM muffler. I imagine the guts inside are different and allow more air flow. I highly doubt BMW would put their reputation in jeopardy for an OEM muffler with a performance plaque riveted on the bottom just to make an extra buck. Either way I am 100% satisfied with mine.

There is no way your PE is as quiet as OEM. Mine is noticeably louder. Wait until after break in. |

Your right, the OP is lieing...he had nothing else better to do then come up with this horseshit thread...bro if he says its not as loud then its not as loud. Plus who's to say the muffler he bought was used and is already broken in? |
