MP3 capabilities for Nav Oct 2005 prod?
Hey guys, i as on the BMW USA website and was reading the standard options of the 330i versus the 325i and saw a foot note that states this:
5) If vehicle is equipped with BMW navigation system, MP3 capabilities not available until October 2005 production. i'm guess the September software update doesnt inculde MP3 capabilities? hmmm? sorry if this old news, its news to me since i've been hunting down every thread about this update for the Nav.. |

Yeah my dealer told me the same a few weeks back when I ordered. I opted not to wait because he said that even October might slip.
The main thing I guess is hopefully it is a software update and not a hardware update - if it's hardware I will be stuck with a non-MP3 audio system Does anyone out there no for sure whether us pre-MP3 people will be able to get a software update that cures us ? |

European members were saying they got MP3 with Pro Nav with the September CIP19.01 update
We need those that have it to confirm, since it seems USA cars with the update dont have it |

Hi guys,
afaik the MP3 Update is scheduled for autumn this year... As we all know autumn lasts until december... I have my car at the dealer these days so I will have the chance to check the MP3 capability of SW version 19.XX hopefully. The cd changer can now deal with MP3 CDs (as of Sept. production) but nevertheless you need a radio/ navi system that can deal with the MP3 data... and that is not the case for navi prof so far... So the navi prof. will be able to play MP3 with the CD drive in the dash board and - if you have the "new" cd changer - with MP3 CDs in the changer... So long, mwie |

Sept built radio/Nav improvements
I live in Germany, and I received a US spec 325i on 19 Sept. It was produced the first week of September. I have the I-Drive. My friend has a 330 built in June. Here are some differences between our cars.
My radio RDS works while his doesn't. My radio immediately picks up radio stations and displays their names, while his takes minutes to pick up radio stations and only displays the station number. It does indeed play MP3s with the Nav. In fact I can play MP3s on a MP3 CD in the cd drive, or a MP3 DVD in the DVD/Nav slot. If you broke the MP3 CD down by folders, you will see folders on the display. So I can select a U2 folder and then it will display and play on in that folder. It will go onto the next folder when it completes one. The display is a bit funky. On your screen you'll see about 5 songs. It gives a strage abbreviation like "13 USAll~" or something similar. When a song is playing you can select details from the menu and then all songs that are actively playing will show both artist and song title, while the other 4 songs on the screen remain with the funky abbreviation. Those were the major differences that we could tell. Has anyone found anything else? |

Would have been nice to see some real pics of the e90 (with Pro Navi) playing mp3s. It would make it seem a bit more real for those of us with pre-sept production e90's waiting for an s/w update.

I'm due to collect my 330iSE with SatNav Pro tomorrow Bimmer325iSE. I think it was built as a September week 36 production, so I'll try to put some pics up after I get it & if it works!

Picture of the MP3 Playing
My car was built the first week of Sept and delivered the second week in Sept. It is American specs, bought through their military sales program. Here is a picture of my car playing a MP3 CD. As you can see, when the details aren't selected, it displays some weird titles. This may be due to the tags not being correct. However, most songs display correctly when played. You do have to turn this details option on however, like displayed in the manual.

MP3 September update
Hi,
I received my new 320 with I-Drive yesterday from my Dutch car dealer (What a great Car!!!!). Optimistically I was hoping to see the MP3 capabilities, but it didn't play any MP3 CD not in the CD or DVD player. I was hoping that it would. I didn't ordered the CD charger because i was hoping that the update was installed with my new car. Can someone tell me how to correctly burn a MP3 CD for use in the Car. Perhaps I use the wrong method of burning one. P.S. Can someone also tell my how to check with software version is installed? I hear everybody talking about the CP 19.1 version with MP3 capabilities. Thanks Martin |

If this is true, I am hoping that we can get the mp3 upgrade sometime end of october or possibly november
But i still havent got DRLs so I don't know if that's part of the MP3 update (19.1?) Did others US cars got DRLs w/i drive?

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3813 Also this is not mentioned in the link, but if you use Itunes you have to make sure that you select "Convert ID3 Tags" under the "Advanced" menu and change to version 1.x. The BMW system only recognizes ID3 version 1 tags. I think the Itunes default is version 2.x. |

Thanks for the information rkwjr.
Does anybody have any options left to try? I have tried to burn a MP3 CD using several CD burning programs (like Nero, i-tunes, record now etc.) but without any success. Even try using several brands of cd writable disks. Each time I have waited several minutes (like the manual specified) to see if the dashboard players (CD and DVD) could read the created disks. This really sucks big-time.... after waiting for so long on the car delivery I really hoped that this batch was able to play the disks. Dealer Pickup date: 30 September 2005. Car type: BMW 320i Dynamic Executive Software version: Unknown… Nav + I-drive option: Present… DRLs option: Present…. Door locking option present! MP3 option....... NOT Present!!!!!!! |
