Updated interior - M goodies
Well, I have had the parts in my car for awhile, but some medical issues have prevented me from finishing the install and cleaning everything and finally posting up pictures. When I ordered my car back in 2006 I was a little disappointed in the choices I had for interior trim and went with black leather and aluminum trim. It looked good but I was never really totally satisfied. Three years later, BMW has some really nice options for DIY with some basic tools and knowledge. After much research and looking at pictures online I decided to go with the M tri stitch steering wheel, Perforated short weighted M knob, perforated e-brake handle, Titanium M3 trim for dash and doors, and a Piano black center console/ash tray cover. I would have preferred to have a matching console, but BMW does not make it. Last weekend I went to town with some 303 and leatherique and I think it looks awesome. Too bad this was not available from BMW direct from the factory. And because I want both form and function, I am really happy to report that the shift knob and steering wheel not only look great, but also have improved the feel of the car. Can't ask for more than that.
I'd like to send a big thank you to the guys at Tischer for the help in finding part numbers and great pricing on parts. Without further adue, here are the pics. Last edited by therealm3; 07-27-2010 at 01:53 PM.. |

i hope the titanium trim is not what the titanium trim was like on the e46 m3 --- it bubbled and peeled like no other.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I am really happy with the way it turned out.
yep. did it myself. not hard at all. the two trickiest parts are getting the airbag to release and the clips for the wires on the airbag off. i practiced a couple times with the new wheel to get a feel for how it works seeing you can't see when you are taking the air bag off. its by brail. the electrical connectors were a challenge at first just cause i hadn't seen that style before. But a quick look at the ones on the new wheel shed much needed light and it was a breeze. Remember to line up the splines of the wheel to the shaft correctly or else you have to do it again. unless you like rollin a crooked wheel. |
