LED Headlights

I noticed that the new Audi A7 has an option for LED headlights. It has been available on the R8 and is standard on the A8. Will this be available for the F10?

That's totally different. A8 uses LED for HEADLIGHTS! No more Xenon.

Audi has always been pioneer in the use of LED; it was the first manufacturer to use LED for daytime running lights, and now headlights.

Those Audi LED headlights are pretty cool. For example, when an Audi from UK (right hand drive) arrive at left hand drive countries (automatically detected by GPS), the LED headlights pattern would automatically change accordingly.

Back to the OP question - no, no BMWs has LED headlights. BMW is a few years behind Audi in the use of LEDs. We only have LED daytime running lights (corona lights) since last year!

Led headlight. That's probably a $2 or $3K option package. But it looks GOOD !

@fireman550,
By Angel Lights you mean the DLR''s right? Not 100% but they look like LEDs, but the main light is still either Xenon or Halogen.
What they are talking about here is having nothing but LED's i.e no halogen or Xenon.

The Prius has had LED lights for a while, there is an interesting debate running here

http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-...too-white.html

Personally I would want to test drive in the dark, ideally in the rain before I switched to a non Xenon light!

Would want to understand how the range and levelling systems worked on any LED light system.

I am sure however the Audi and BMW systems will be superior to Toyota .........

OK I got you. Thanks for the clarification. And I do completely agree with you in all areas. I actually like the Xenon alot better than the LED I have seen on the Audi's. It seems to be alot more crisp and less dull than the LED's. And we all know that if Audi and BMW do decide to put them on their cars the superior quality will be present....

Do you guys know if the orange strip at the corner of the headlight not light up in the halogen headlight (marked in white)? Mine doesn't light up, and i'm assuming it is part of the xenon package.

@fireman550
No problem, happy ot help :-)
Indeed, sounds like one of those things that sounds good on paper but certainly the early implementations may not be so good! I love the Xenon's I hope if BMW do LED's they will give people the choice! That's true maybe the first BMW implimentation will be perfect

@smanoj77
Sorry I don't know yet, as soon as I get my hands on a car, I will take a look and let you know what that one does! Shouldn't be long now! ;-)

I have halogen headlights as well, and the angel eyes are NOT LED. I am actually looking at where to get some HID angel eyes for my f10.

I have no experience of LED headlights, but if the Xenons on my forthcoming F10 are as good as those on my current E92 I'll be more than happy.
Late last night I drove home through torrential rain on unlit Scottish country roads with no problems at all. A few weeks a go I drove my girlfriend's Focus with Halogens in identical conditions and wow, what a difference!
My F10's coming with see-around-corners/auto-dip, adaptive lights and by then we'll be in near perpetual darkness up here, so I'm looking forward to trying them out.

It lights up only when you select the "Welcome Lights" mode and your light switch selector is either on "Auto" or "Main" indicator....mine does..

Lots of interesting looking curves; I've had a quick on the Autocar website, but I can't find this picture.
Would you mind posting the link? Thanks.

fireman,
the main lamp for your F10 is xenon = HID. I agree, they are nicer than LED's. As for the angel eyes, i think those are LED's - the tail lights certainly are. most headlight systems use halogen/tungsten as the main light source. fair to assume xenon (hid) if white and with a leveling system.

Does anyone know what type of LED bulb is the 5 series using ? Is it H8 ?
I really hope that if someone can take it out and take a pic to show us how it looks. I wonder if BMW make their own special LEDs bulbs for the 2011 3 and 5 series Angel Eye.
And will it work on our 2011 7 series.

Believe it or not. I just don't understand why our 2011 7 series comes with Yellow Angel Eye and the others don't. Most of the new 7 series owners all complaining about that lol.

But please if anyone who has the 2011 model 3 or 5 series with the stock white bright LEDs Angel Light. And willing to provide us more information on the LED bulb , that will be awesome. Cause i really don't know if that is the whole head light design or we can purchase the 5 series LED bulb individually.

Thanks
CED
