Has anyone bought the extended warranty?
I am interested in a new F10 and am wondering if anyone here has bought an extended warranty. If so, please share the asking price and "your" price and what warranty it is. I put on about 18K miles / year and plan on running my next car ( 90% sure it will be a 550, 10% 535 ) till close to 100K and am therefore interested in the extended warranty.
Thanks in advance. Paul |

I went with a plan that Lithia offered over the BMW plan. I think we got a pretty good deal at $1,500 for a 7 yr. 75K mile extended warranty.
We also opted for a Life-time oil change plan they had. Up to 4 oil changes per year for as long as you own the vehicle (I made sure that includes BMW filters & synthetic oil). I think we paid a ridiculously low price of like $400 for that! Ask your dealer if they have any other offerings besides the BMW plans. |

Full bumper to bumper like the BMW plan. Since my dealer is Lithia owned, they have their own programs to offer as well as the BMW plans. They also had a 100K mile plan that was more.
They actually had a nice rotisserie of extra plans available to choose from. We went with the 7/75 full warranty, the life-time oil & filter change and Exterior/Interior protection package (which is stain protecting the interior and a teflon coating to the exterior paint). We were able to get a really good deal since the salesman and finance officer are both neighbors of ours. I think we paid about $2,300 for all three of those add-ons. |

Sounds like a heck of a deal. I think the dealer was asking 3k for 7yr/75k/mi for an extension of the manufacturers warranty bumper to bumper.
As far as the oil changes, 4 a year sounds good to me, but who determines when the oil needs changing, the car or you? Cause if it's the car then I'm not buying into the once every 15k miles or 2 years oil change interval BMW has going on. |

I thought the price we paid for the life-time oil changes was pretty cheap considering it probably costs upwards $100 for an oil change at the dealer. I confirmed as well before we bought that they use BMW filters and Mobile 1 oil. |

I would be very surprised if that four oil changes a year was at the owner's discretion. I would suggest that it is still specified to be at 15K miles, up to 4 times a year (i.e. 60K miles total).
These warranties are great for peace of mind, but let's remember please that they are HUGE profit makers for the dealers. And keep in mind too that many warranty companies have gone out of business in the past few years. Also, many (if not most) have a deductible and exclusions. Generally speaking, you are better off taking the money spent on a warranty and sticking it in the bank. Use that money for repairs as they occur. Odds are that you'll come out ahead. Of course, odds are that you won't get into an accident today either, but none of us are self-insured for that. So if you want that extended warranty, go for it, but educate yourself on what is covered and do your own price comparisons and research the company that backs up the warranty.

I looked back at my purchase agreement and I was a little off on the price. It was $699. It's still a steal at that price. I tend to keep my vehicles for at least 10 years. So if I change the oil 4 times per year, that's $17.50 per change in today's money! |
