Performance intake come with another part?
Hello,
I recently purchased the performance intake for my 128i... I installed it, but there was an extra piece (I think about the size of a computer mouse) -- is this extra piece meant for installing on the 135i? I was slightly confused and I tried to see if it would fit anywhere else, but I couldn't figure it out. Thanks! |

The Performance intake doesn't fit on the 135i, so that piece must be for the 128i. Did you not have instructions? I think I have a .pdf on my computer at home if you need it, or try searching the boards.

Possible that it's a different version of the one that's attached? Maybe if you have a certain option or country car you replace the piece that's on there with the one that's not.
Or, maybe they just sent you two by mistake. Either way it looks like you don't fit both at the same time. |

I have the BMW Performance intake on my 128i as well. And yeah, those two parts, which don't seem to fit anywhere. It took about two hours to install the intake, with no instructions, it looks nice, and sounds good too. Not too noisy.
Can someone pm me about the PDF? Thanks, I want to see if it mentions those pieces and also the extra filter by the mass airflow sensor. (which I left in place) |

Here's the instructions from BMW. I haven't done the install myself yet, so I can't comment on what those extra bits might be. Good luck.
EDIT: Okay, this isn't working. Anyone know how to attach files? The "Manage Files" and the paperclip buttons pull up a window that allows me to browse my HD and select the file, but it's not uploading for some reason...

Attached are instructions. I believe you are asking about part C, and according to the diagram, it goes on top of the other part you have in the pic. Hard to tell for sure without having the pieces in front of me... might be an extra. Anyway, take a look.

Hmm.
That PDF must be for an older car. The intake I have has an oiled, triangular air filter that replaces the factory one. In fact, there was quite a bit more to do with my installation. You had to remove the lower potion of the intake and add some parts to it. I see what these two pieces do in this case, but still not sure they apply in my case. Update: I figured this out. Will add some pictures to my post. Those two parts actually stack on top of each other and plug into the intake on the far, upper, right. Looks quite nice and finsihed when installed correctly! The sound is cool. Quiet at low speeds with a nice growl at high rpm, just what I wanted. Last edited by MikeinAlexandria; 09-03-2010 at 10:39 AM.. |
