New clutch- anything else?

The previous owner of my car must not have been very experienced in driving a stick, at 85,000 miles the clutch has just about had it.

I am ordering the parts today.

Do I need anything else?

Should I have the flywheel resurfaced?

Thanks

When replacing the clutch always grind the flywheel and replace the pilot bearing.

Anyone knows where I can get light flywheels for cheap?

Getbmwparts.com, it's about $700 there. You can't resurface dual mass flywheels. It will damage the grinding tool or your flywheel. The clutch kit comes with a new disk, pressure plate, and alignment tool. It's about $300.

Cool, but there is conflicting info on turning a dual mass flywheel.

Any input?

It depends on the design of the flywheel. In the case of the BMW flywheel you cannot resurface because you can't separate the two sections of the flywheel. With some other dual mass flywheels the friction surface can be separated from the main portion of the flywheel and they can be resurfaced individually.

WRT to installing a lighter flywheel (if one is even available for the E9*), I wouldn't recommend it unless you install a numerically higher rear end. A lighter flywheel w/ the stock rear end will kill your launches.

While we are on this subject can the 335 flywheel/clutch be installed on an NA or would you have to install a 335 trans as well? Is it worth it?
