BMW has a assembly factory at india , if thats what your question was. All 3's and 5s are assembled here. Rest of the range is imported fully built from germany. S |

For india 5s are assembeled here. I think china as well. Not sure about other markets. Technically everything is manufactured in germany. The bring the knocked down kits here and assemble the cars.
For india duty on Kits is 30% On a fully built car imported into the country (for ex my Z4) - tax is 120% |

A good question, people pay 100% tax for cars in India. However salaries are very high there, at least for may company we pay more to people living in India than US. The world is changing.

India is not a very big market yet, will be in next few years as people have a lot of money and are starting the luxury spends now. BMW sells about 4000 cars per year for all models combined in india. China is really big for BMW right now. If i am not mistaken about 100,000 cars currently. The economics are changing all around. |

I've seen a few E60's in Ludhiana, Punjab when I was there in Nov last year.
I had to do a double take when I seen them. There are quite a few "premium" cars in Delhi though. I had heard of a "kit" car plant in Chennai but never seen any until my last visit to India. I remember when the Rover Montego was seen as an advanced car in India. Times are changing fast. suvidh you must be doing well to have one yourself.

They also assemble F10's in Malaysia. It's basically a tax avoidance thing where they take out some minor stuff before putting the cars on the boat and then screw it back on in the destination country.

Sure wil post them as soon as the car arrive next week. I am tempted to drive to my hometown after i get the car. (3500 kms round trip) . Debating the idea right now.
Did this trip on the Z4 in July 2010 so i am not sure if i want to do such a long drive again so soon. With Z4 it was the speed thrill. With the 525D the fuel efficency is tempting me. The efficency figure BMW claims, sound exciting. |

Yes. His rich uncle in India left him $10 million USD that is tied up in court. If you send him $10,000 he will bribe the attorneys to get the money out of the country and split the $10 million with you.

Congtrats on your F10.
PB, I assume thats in Punjab. Whats the roads like over there? I come from south India and I wouldn't dream of taking the car out of the house there if I had an F10 there. The roads are so dreadful especially with the monsoon getting heavier each year. |
