Shifting to Third the clutch just didn't come back up...

07 335i 6spd

I am looking for some help...

I was driving on friday. I hit the gas in second gear to pull around a semi. I went to about 6000 rpms and proceeded to shift to third.

Off the gas--depress clutch to floor-- shift to third--and give it gas as i lift my left leg... BUT the clutch pedal doesnt come back up off the floor...

I coast to the shoulder and pull the pedal up with my hand.

If i putthe clutch to the floor all theway I can get the car into gear and if i let off the clutch pedal it comes up minimally but the clutch begins to engage but will not fully engage.

Im thinking its the clutch master cylinder.. any thoughts?

Every time I've heard about the clutch pedal getting stuck to the floor with this car, it's been the throw out bearing.

So this is somewhat common on e9x's. I knew I should have kept my e46

U really need a clutch line mod in a manual if ur goin to drive it hard, I managed to weld my clutch to my flywheel by doin a few donuts all because of that stupid little valve.

maybe.. if the T/O gets stuck on the input shaft flang, it could do what you are explaining.. or worst case scenario is the the release fingers are weak on the pressure plate (aka pressure plate is toast)....

is there a point when you can engage the clutch by hand, and then disengage it (pushing in) .... what type of travel do you get with pressure applied ??
1/2 - 3/4 or near the floor? if it starts the disengage closer to the floor then i wouldnt condemn the T/O cuz is sliding freely for a significant distance..

but i have seen a few stuck T/O bearing through the years, so you may dodge the bullet

Clutch dropped to floor normally means a clutch hydraulic leak or air in the hydraulic lines. Check reservoir, master, and slave for leaks. The only thing that doesn't make sense is you stated that clutch would not fully engage. If there were a hydraulic problem you would have difficulty making clutch DISENGAGE.

if the clutch pedal fades to the floor, or needs to be pumped.. would be a hydraulic issue.. not dropping to the floor.. unless the clutch pedal return spring is disconnected. the return spring will normally pull the pedal to rest position.

since there has been no report from the OP.. maybe he's already found the problem

The throw out bearing (or maybe I should say the release bearing) has a plastic surface and this is what rests against the fingers of the pressure plate.

Ok so I got the car back from the dealer this morning and we were all wrong. Apparently the person who owned this car before me either raced the car or didn't know how to drive it. The clutch disc was apparently almost completely disintegrated and separated. The dealer replaced just the clutch disc. So weird IMHO

sounds close -- knew it wasnt a hydraulic issue. Normally slipping the clutch excessively or hard, continual launches will produce this type of thing. Ive done a few, and everytime we replace the pressure plate assy also. ive only seen a few completely wasted discs, and those were on M cars. maybe it hadnt destroyed the face of the pressure plate ... hmm quite interesting

They're doing this in alot of new cars. It seems many new cars are having clutch issues. S2k and Evo have the valve as well. Evo also has a plastic master cylinder that will bust when you get a stronger clutch. Modern day gargbage. Probably made in China.
Do you have a diy for taking it out?
