N54 6AT threshold?

Does anyone know what the threshold limit for the N54 6AT transmission is?
Would DPs, FMIC and a V4 put a lot or too much strain on the 6AT in the 335i?
How long and how much HP are these trannys built to handle?
Please let me know, as I am very intrested in picking up a second hand 335i 6AT.

Thanks in advance.

you should look at getting it flushed soon.

The transmissions in these cars are the same ones bolted behind the V8 in the Alpina B7. I dont think we have any worries.

Hi DimSum,

I've been running at my power level since Feb 2010. I have had no problems with the 6AT, other than its BORING ... but the wife doesn't drive a manual.

I'm not sure what country you are located in, but if they have a DCT available, I would get that instead.

Had it flushed twice already. 25k and then around 55k for preventative maintenance!

No, what you're referring to is DTC (Dynamic Traction Control).

DCT (Dual Clutch Transmission) is an entirely different tranny that wasn't even offered on 335's until the 335is as a 2011 model. M3's have had it since 08.

Only failure we've seen here is around 500WHP+ and 500WTQ+ with lots of 1/4 mile abuse and the use of nitrous.

6AT is boring to me... but its theoretically faster.

There are those running upgraded turbos on automatic transmissions with no problems at all. I don't think you need to be worried

THe failure was also created by the user of the car with nitrous because it was sprayed during gear shifts and thats not healthy for the tranny and the components related to the transmission! Rule of thumb is not to spray while the tranny is shifting

That is almost comical. The specs are available for both transmissions. It is very clear that the ZF Type G 6MT will be the strong one.

This is not true. The N54 cars have a GA6HP19Z. It is the "low torque" version of the GA6HP26Z that comes in the Alpina B7.

This will always be the argument between my me and my old man and he uses the same exact words to define MT driving.
